Staff Platform Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to lead the design, build, and operation of a highly scalable, secure, and reliable cloud platform on Azure, with Kubernetes at its core. This role plays a critical position within the platform organization, setting architectural direction, improving developer experience, and ensuring production-grade reliability for modern .NET workloads.

As a Staff Engineer, you will partner closely with application, security, and operations teams to enable self-service capabilities, standardize platform patterns, and continuously improve automation, observability, and resilience across the cloud ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Architecture & Engineering

  • Design, build, and operate a scalable Kubernetes-based platform (AKS) supporting production .NET applications.
  • Define platform architecture standards and reference patterns for cloud-native workloads.
  • Evaluate and introduce new platform capabilities to improve performance, security, and developer productivity.

Cloud Infrastructure & Automation

  • Build and maintain cloud infrastructure across Azure (AWS exposure a plus) using Infrastructure as Code.
  • Own end-to-end automation for environment provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure infrastructure is secure, cost-efficient, and aligned with enterprise best practices.

CI/CD & Developer Enablement

  • Design, maintain, and evolve CI/CD pipelines to support consistent, repeatable, and secure deployments.
  • Enable self-service deployment capabilities for engineering teams, reducing friction and time-to-market.
  • Partner with developers to improve build, release, and operational workflows.

Reliability, Observability & Operations

  • Own monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling to ensure platform health and performance.
  • Drive reliability engineering practices including SLIs/SLOs, incident response, and post-incident reviews.
  • Proactively identify and remediate scalability, availability, and resiliency risks.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Act as a technical leader and trusted advisor across platform and application teams.
  • Mentor engineers and influence best practices in cloud, Kubernetes, and automation.
  • Raise the engineering bar by setting standards for platform quality, security, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, SRE, cloud infrastructure, or related roles.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Azure and Kubernetes (AKS) in production environments.
  • Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and automation-first design.
  • Proven experience operating and supporting large-scale, highly available production systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a systems-level understanding of cloud-native architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technically, influence without authority, and mentor engineers.

Preferred Technologies

  • Cloud: Azure (AWS experience is a plus)
  • Containers: Kubernetes (AKS), Docker
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Bicep
  • CI/CD: Azure DevOps, Jenkins
  • Scripting: Python, Bash
  • Observability: Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana
