Job Overview:

Provide coverage and advocacy of regulatory matters at the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), ERCOT, and other relevant regulatory agencies in support of NRG’s wholesale and retail businesses in Texas. Develop and implement regulatory policy as part of an integrated team of regulatory affairs and governmental affairs professionals. The candidate must have knowledge of the electric power industry in Texas with emphasis on the ERCOT competitive wholesale and retail markets. The candidate must have existing relationships in the electric industry and with regulatory agencies in Austin. The candidate must also have a proven history of excellence in drafting comments and publicly advocating for wholesale and retail matters.

 

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will be involved in regulatory matters covering the breadth of NRG’s businesses primarily at ERCOT but also the PUCT.
  • Effectively advocate company positions in the ERCOT stakeholder process and to regulatory agencies in support of policies consistent with NRG's business goals and the competitive market.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and coordination of regulatory filings at ERCOT and the PUCT.
  • Track and analyze relevant regulatory policy changes and activity at ERCOT and the PUCT.
  • Study and gauge the impact of proposed regulatory policy changes on NRG in coordination with NRG business personnel.
  • Prepare updates, reports, and summaries that accurately reflect activity at regulatory agencies relevant to NRG.
  • Effectively communicate with key members of regulatory agencies on opportunities for enhancement or merits of specific policy changes to influence approval, amendment, or rejection in support of NRG's interests.
  • Interact with senior management across the company to communicate regulatory activity and develop regulatory strategies.
  • Work with industry peers and market participants to develop consensus solutions on complex policy issues.
  • Provide advice to management and project teams across NRG on regulatory requirements necessary to support business transactions and activity in compliance with PUCT rules.
  • Work with NRG’s communications group on media interface.
  • Assist with tracking and analysis of legislative activity.

Qualifications:

  • Prior regulatory experience in the ERCOT stakeholder process and at the PUCT. In-depth knowledge of ERCOT competitive wholesale and retail markets.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant disciple. Engineering preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the ERCOT competitive markets for a company that participates in the ERCOT competitive market.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member; ability to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources.
  • Willingness and ability to develop skills in new areas.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a variety of relevant areas including: communication skills (verbal and written); project management skills; negotiation skills; the ability to provide a high level of client service and to do excellent work under difficult time pressures and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, if necessary.
  • Position will be located in Austin, Texas.
