Job Summary: 

 

The Cash Application Supervisor is a key member of the Receivables Management team and has operational ownership for maintaining a rigorous and detailed accounting of over $7B in annual customer receipts through multiple banking relationships and accounts in a dynamic, complex, and evolving AR management environment.  Additionally, he/she will provide leadership, guidance, and accountability for the day-to-day activities of the Cash Application team.

 

The Cash Application Supervisor will work closely with Operations teams, Sales, Home, banking vendor(s), other payment channel vendors, Treasury and Finance. He/She will need to build effective working relationships with key people in all departments. Scope will include US and Canada Operations, but may include all areas as covered by NRG Business.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervises staff to ensure customer payments are posted timely and accurately while scheduling workload, responsibilities, and duties for each team member
  • Maintain detailed records of daily customer receipt transactions in multiple bank accounts.
  • Oversees reconciliation of unidentified payment issues in addition to resolving misapplied payment issues for customers with a sense of urgency
  • Oversees the reporting of daily and cumulative unapplied payment details by bank account, payment method, bank batch, and item detail.
  • Reconcile all cash daily receipt activity.  Escalate reconciling items to the appropriate team for remediation and monitor SLA.
  • Continuous communication with Treasury and banking vendors in order to ensure highest level of automation and timeliness in applying payments to customers' accounts.
  • Coordinate with Finance to ensure cash, accounts receivable and unapplied cash are reflected in the general ledger in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains adequate controls to ensure data and process integrity while escalating issues/concerns/recommendations to manager in a timely manner.
  • Compile and report Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for all cash receipts, payment applications, and unapplied cash balances.
  • Develop Continuous Process Improvements to increase the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of cash receipt, payment application, and unapplied cash controls.
  • Provide guidance and expertise for banking relationship, bank account, customer payment option, and AR management platform changes.
  • Lead effort to standardize and optimize customer receipt processes and controls across multiple platforms leveraging best practices.
  • Establishes, documents, implements and monitors Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with vendors and ensures vendor activities adhere to all NRG policies.
  • Coordinates with Finance to ensure all audit requests are addressed in a timely and accurate manner.

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Previous supervisory experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred.
  • Masters/MBA, CPA and/or other professional certifications a plus.
  • Energy industry experience (gas/power) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with multi-platform receivables operations, banking integrations, and high-volume transaction environments.

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about.

The base salary range for this position is: $70,000 - $121,000. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
