Job Summary:

Senior Accountant supporting the financial close process including maintenance of the general ledgers, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation activity. Focus includes balance sheet and cash flow analysis and special projects. Responsible for maintaining accounting records of NRG. This position is responsible for variance analysis and investigation of operational and financial data.  The Senior Accountant assists in increasing the efficiency of processes and procedures. This role also works closely with multiple departments across NRG to understand company operations and ensure financial information is presented accurately and timely, while also identifying opportunities for process enhancements.  Additionally, the position is accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the preparation of the Company’s accounting information in accordance with US GAAP.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly financial close procedures including preparation of journal entries
  • Analyze and investigate monthly fluctuations related to working capital and cash flow
  • Work with cross-functional team members to understand company operations to ensure financial information is presented accurately and timely
  • Preparation of monthly account reconciliations and analyses for Balance Sheet review
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly controllers’ package
  • Support internal and external audit procedures and requests
  • Assure Internal Controls procedures are followed and documented
  • Assist with ad hoc research and analysis to support decision making processes
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement including support for process and system changes where necessary working with IT and other stakeholder groups
  • Assist with special projects as requested

 

 

 

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work schedule; a combination of working remotely from home and 3 days a week in the office
  • Open office environment
  • Some overtime required during closings and as special projects arise
  • Minimal Travel

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and at least 5 years of accounting/finance experience or 2+ years of Public Accounting experience
  • Thorough technical/professional knowledge and understanding of GAAP
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels within the organization
  • Highly organized with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
  • High level of motivation and aptitude for problem solving, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel with knowledge of advanced features such as pivot tables and look ups

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or CPA designation
  • Knowledge of the power/gas wholesale and retail energy markets
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP system
  • Experience with Hyperion Financial Management or comparable
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Experience with team building and developing team members
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated planning and organizing skills; ability to think strategically/long-term
