Job Summary:
- Responsible for managing day-to-day activities related to wholesale natural gas transportation payments and physical gas invoicing. Key duties include supporting monthly and quarterly close processes, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and delivering analytics tied to Market Operations. Additional responsibilities involve responding to external audit requests and collaborating with IT and cross-functional stakeholders to implement system enhancements.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Accurately prepare and process wholesale natural gas pipeline transportation invoices and bilateral physical gas settlements, ensuring timely completion and resolution of discrepancies through detailed reconciliation and collaboration with front office teams.
- Assist with accounting for power plant operations and Energy Management Agreements (EMAs) as they pertain to wholesale natural gas activities
- Support monthly and quarterly close activities by booking accruals, reconciling and validating data for accuracy, and interpreting results to deliver clear, insightful reporting.
- Assist with accounting for inventory-related transactions, including storage, call options, and park-and-loan activities
- Work with internal and external auditors by providing documentation, addressing inquiries, and clearly explaining relevant processes as needed
- Build and sustain strong working relationships with internal and external business partners.
- Assist with special projects and/or ad hoc requests as needed
- Identify opportunities for process and system improvements, collaborating with IT and other stakeholders to implement changes effectively.
Working Conditions:
- Open office environment
- Hybrid work model, 3 days in office (Corporate office vs Home office)
- No travel required
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting
- 3+ years accounting or finance experience
- Solid understanding of journal entries and their impact on the income statement and balance sheet
- Proven ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated with strong time management, reconciliation, and organizational skills; able to meet tight deadlines
- Proficient excel skills and strong attention to detail
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage across all levels of internal and external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the gas wholesale and retail energy markets is a plus
- Solid analytical and technical skill set
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Epsilon, Apollo & SAP experience is a plus
