NRG is seeking a Senior in its Corporate Accounting team based in Princeton, NJ. This position will perform (1) analysis, accounting and reporting related to NRG’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) business and (2) review and analysis related to NRG’s corporate accounting function including pension and post-retirement plans and other benefits.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare and record all required monthly and quarterly journal entries including those related to NRG’s VPP agreements and benefit plans primarily pension and post-retirement.
- Perform assigned account reconciliations and analysis of results in accordance with established timelines including those associated with NRG VPP entities and benefits on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Assist in review and assessment of NRG’s VPP agreements to ensure correct accounting.
- Work with other VPP team members to develop required processes and procedures including regional accountants and business operations and in consultation with Accounting Research.
- Work with HR team to liaise with NRG actuaries related to quarterly and annual procedures for pension and post-retirement plans
- Perform research within the general ledger and work with various departments regarding the flow of transactions.
- Assist in preparation of quarter-end close package including pension/post-retirement, other income & expense, and others as needed.
- Assist with NRG’s sustainability processes and reporting
- Liase between Corporate Accounting, HR, Business Operations, Regional Accounting, FP&A, and Accounting Research and other departments.
- Crosstrain and serve as back up for other Corporate Accounting tasks
- Ensure recurring processes and checklists are clearly documented.
- Assist with ad hoc requests and analysis in the requested timeframe.
- Assist with implementing new tasks or adding efficiency to current tasks including automation and use of AI
- Adhere to all Sarbanes Oxley and internal control requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Open office environment
- In the office Monday to Thursday
- Some overtime required during monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and as special projects arise
- No travel required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with experience in general accounting
- Experience: 3-5 years of public or private accounting experience, including some or all the following: journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, monthly closing process, and monthly reports
- Good working knowledge of US GAAP
- Knowledge of accounting software, SAP and HFM/Hyperion preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite in particular Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is strongly preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years in accounting specifically with general ledger accounting related areas
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with SAP and HFM/Hyperion or similar ERP system preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience related to accounting for debt financing
