Position Summary: Credit & Collateral Risk Intern
NRG is seeking a highly motivated, analytical, detail-oriented team player to join our Credit & Collateral Risk group. The successful candidate will fill a key role in the daily operations of a growing, integrated global energy and services company, with opportunities to contribute greatly towards the goals within the Credit and Collateral functions. They will be a mature self-starter, eager to learn and with basic understanding of financial statement analysis, collateral instruments, and financial exposure measurement and management. Reporting duties require basic Excel skills though expertise is desired.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Credit & Collateral Risk, this position will be part of the team responsible for the management, analysis and reporting of NRG’s North American wholesale credit and liquidity risk portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Perform financial analysis and annual wholesale counterparty reviews; spread financial metrics and ratios into S&P Capital IQ to generate score rating for counterparties.
- Perform various collateral management related activities including margin dispute reconciliation as well as manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work with the Collateral Manager to maintain LC and Surety Bond efficiency management.
- Work with Credit & Collateral team members to develop additional risk reports, as well as suggest and implement improvements to the existing suite of reports and processes.
- Ensure credit databases and systems are maintained and updated.
- Perform weekly reporting of top customer exposures, expected losses, and over-limit issues.
- Assist with and participate in any special projects as necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Open office environment a minimum of 3 days/week.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment 1-2 days/week.
Qualifications & Experience:
- University undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field;
- Foundational understanding of financial statements and credit risk metrics.
- High degree of proficiency with MS Excel is required.
- Ability to take ownership of projects and deliver on objectives under strict timelines, with a good sense of prioritization.
- Strong written and oral communications skills; ability to communicate effectively across business units and geographies.
- Detail-oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively with other team members and departments.
