Job Summary: 

This position will be involved in a diverse range of activities and offers an excellent developmental opportunity for a candidate with experience in one or more of the areas indicated below. Activities for this role include analysis of renewable generation, analytics supporting the management of NRG’s generation assets, NRG’s integrated retail/generation portfolio analysis and optimization activities, and North American market fundamentals for both power and gas. Located on the trade floor at our Princeton, New Jersey office, this position offers a high degree of visibility.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Trade Desks, Retail Sales, Origination, Project Development, Asset Management, and Regulatory to create and disseminate fundamental market analysis (e.g., white papers, briefs, presentations)
  • Support Asset Management and Plant Operations Teams on gross margin valuation, commercial assessment, and optimization of the existing asset portfolio.
  • Assist Structuring team in modeling energy assets and complex transactions including power generation, tolling transactions, load following/full requirements transactions, sales off of existing assets, asset acquisitions, renewable energy procurement, storage options, fuel transportation, and long-term fixed price energy purchases/sales by utilizing a variety of internal and external valuation models.
  • Develops analytical tools and valuation models that allow for efficient transaction analysis, effective communication across teams, transparency of work product and ease of use.
  • Communicate transaction value and risk metrics across the organization, such that timely and optimal decisions can be made
  • Participate in contract negotiations and work with diverse deal teams whose members include originators, traders, quantitative analysts, risk control analysts, operations personnel, and management
  • Prepare management presentations and documentation as required

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work environment with 3 days per week in office,  2 days remote
  • Trade floor/open office environment
  • Limited travel expected


Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accreted college or university is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of energy industry or energy consulting experience related to asset valuation, market fundamentals/analysis, or energy market reporting
  • Expertise in MS Excel required
  • Proficiency in a programming language (C++, Java, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a mathematics-oriented discipline (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, etc.) is a strong plus
  • Proficiency with data management and analytical tools (Access, VBA, Python, Power BI, SQL tools, or MATLAB) a strong plus
  • Experience in long term fundamental models such as Aurora, Prosym, or Promod a plus

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Intelligent self-starter with good judgment
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks and deliver quality results within time constraints
  • Ability to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced, real-time team environment.
