ENERGY PARALEGAL - Hybrid

 

As the paralegal, you will join a collaborative, national legal team to support NRG Energy Inc.’s business lines and strategic initiatives. You will work directly with in-house and outside attorneys and paralegals to process and respond to legal and business requests from NRG’s internal customers and assist with a wide variety of corporate, compliance, and regulatory projects. The ideal candidate is resourceful, takes initiative and thrives on the challenge of a fast-paced environment, has strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Draft and edit legal documents such as energy supply contracts, NDAs, RFPs, supply chain agreements, and others.
  • Oversee, review, proofread, cite and quality check documents.
  • Coordinate and assist in responding to inquiries from government agencies and other parties.
  • Log and track legal projects, entity information, regulatory compliance deadlines and other miscellaneous matters.
  • Work with functional area leads and management to resolve issues, secure approvals, and ensure successful execution of customer contracts.
  • Assist with execution of complex multi-document transactions such as service agreements, development agreements, mergers and acquisitions, etc.
  • Assist attorneys in responding to due diligence requests.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis, including review of energy tariffs and regulatory filings.
  • Provide back-up support to energy law paralegals and attorneys and performing other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 to 5 years of previous work experience as a corporate paralegal or related experience with a multinational energy company or law firm energy practice.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • ABA-approved Paralegal Certification a plus.
  • Technical proficiency in MS Office; utilizing CRM applications and legal research databases.
  • Strong decision-making, problem resolution, and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to perform diverse and multi-faceted tasks that reflect the dynamic responsibilities of a busy legal department.
  • Capacity to work efficiently and independently, as well as part of a team; to assume ownership of projects; and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication; and organizational skills. Impeccable proofreading and grammar skills a must.
  • A basic to intermediate understanding of the energy industry is a must.
  • The candidate must possess a high degree of tact, maturity, confidence and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

The Paralegal reports to a Contracts Manager with oversite of Senior Counsel.  Preferred location for this role is Houston, TX, Princeton, NJ or Pittsburgh, PA, with a hybrid workforce segmentation.
