Job Purpose
Supervises and provides technical direction to the maintenance workforce.
Essential Functions (these duties must be performed in the job; however, additional duties may be assigned):
- Assumes responsibility role and adhere to Station health & safety, environmental, and personnel policies
- Supervises and provides technical direction to the maintenance workforce
- Plans, schedules, and supervises the day-to-day and weekly work
- Assists with the troubleshooting of equipment problems
- Works to develop team member capabilities equipment problem troubleshooting
- Evaluates and enhances team member knowledge and skill level by providing capable instruction and recommendations for training
- Manages outages, including planning, facilitating outage meetings, and coordinating multi-disciplined (i.e. operating, electrical, instrument, mechanical, and contractor) work groups
- Manages costs within responsible budget area assigned and assist in preparation of budgets
- Works within a computerized maintenance management system for work history, scheduling, and purchasing of materials, parts and personnel
- Provides oversight of predictive and preventive maintenance activities and equipment performance analysis using diagnostic technologies and portable test equipment
- Read, interpret, modify, and implement technical information found in manufacturer’s technical manuals, electrical and mechanical blueprints, P&ID’s, and operating and maintenance procedures.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Required:
- High school diploma required.
- 5 – 8 years of coal fueled power plant or similar heavy industry process involving fossil fuels desired.
- Ability to properly use standard and precision tools, equipment, and read, interpret blueprints, plans, and technical instructions.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of power plant operating principles, procedures, and safe work practices
- Must have knowledge of job safety requirements, work planning, and troubleshooting
- Leadership skills
- Verbal and written communication
- Ability to effectively supervise, train, and direct subordinates
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment and systems
- Sound decision making, high initiative, demonstrated sense of urgency, and accountability
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality and adhering to schedule

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- This is a mixed work environment that combines both office and plant working conditions with moderate to medium noise levels. Must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other PPE as required.
- Supervisor duties require extensive manual dexterity in usage of computer terminal and keyboard, while sitting for long periods of time preparing budgets, schedules, production reports, outage plans, and other reports as needed.
- Plant equipment may require supervisor inspection by climbing vertical ladders in excess of 20 feet and stairways in excess of 50 feet, using step stool, kneeling, bending, walking over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, open grating, up and down staircases. May be required to operate mobile equipment such as zoom booms or scissor lifts to reach heights to inspect equipment, which includes pushing or pulling equipment into place, climbing into a basket, and riding in the basket while the equipment is operational.
- When required for operation, maintenance, or emergency reasons, the supervisor must be able to quickly access all areas of the plant including, but not limited to, confined spaces, high elevations, and hot areas. May be required to work extended periods of time outside normal business hours.
- The compartments where certain equipment may be located may exceed temperatures of 130°F. Some equipment may be located on surfaces where the temperatures may be as high as 600°F.
- This position may require some domestic travel.
Please Note: Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and/or experience and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement covering this position.
The base salary range for this position is: $106,400 - $159,600. *The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
