Job Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading all maintenance, repairs, inspections, work planning and troubleshooting of related power plant equipment and project activities and provides for and oversees coordination of all mechanical work or as directed with Plant Operations – work schedule coordination, Lock-Out/Tag-Out, start-up, etc.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supports and emphasizes importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate daily and outage activities in accordance with Work Management processes including planning, scheduling, tagging, testing, upgrading, modifications, and restoration
  • Effectively employs computerized maintenance management system to provide for the timely preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all systems and equipment in the plant.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all equipment and systems residing in or related to the plant.
  • Manage work backlog to deliver timely maintenance and maintain workforce productivity.
  • Coordinates and supervises contract labor
  • Lead / support emergency response efforts – weather events, fire, environmental spills, etc.
  • Ensures all Company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner and estimates resource requirements.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned equipment and overall plant.
  • Responsible for collateral duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for communicating and leading in accordance with company vision and core values.
  • Ensure a competent and motivated staff by administrating a timely training and qualification program, conducting candid Performance Appraisals and providing leadership to ensure quality work and a highly motivated workforce
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance.
  • Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress.
  • Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them.
  • Understands and consistently applies personnel policies and procedures and the principles of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Responsible for bid specifications and evaluations of goods and services
  • Assesses risk, makes run-repair-replace recommendations and coordinates vendor selection for parts and services as required.
  • Ensure that plant history and other technical files are maintained to document maintenance activities and improve the overall performance of the generating units
  • Perform administrative duties such as: coordinate and schedule shop vacations, track and approve timesheets, invoice approvals, writing requisitions etc.
  • Provide coordination between the Maintenance Shop and all other resource areas of the plant, such as I&C, Operations, Procurement, Planning, and contractor support groups
  • Support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and Capital budgets as they relate to the area of responsibility provided by Management. Monitor and report variances on a regular basis

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in power plant maintenance
  • or
  • Baccalaureate degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline from an accredited college or university, and 6 years of equivalent experience in chemical processing, petrochemical or, manufacturing  industry. 
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid Driver’s License required.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, capable of assessing equipment failure and directing workforce maintenance personnel to complete repairs.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Must possess good administrative and planning capabilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of oil and gas-fired power plant electrical and mechanical maintenance
  • Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations; committed to making the workplace safe and environmentally sound.
  • Demonstrated experience in testing, diagnosing and correcting electrical and mechanical problems
  • Experience with maintenance and repair practices for power plant equipment such as pumps, fluid drives, and electrical systems
  • Must have the ability fully comprehend schematics, drawings, and technical guides
  • Experience using CMMS (Work Management System)
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals
  • Must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others including operators, vendors, contractors, subordinates, peers, and superiors.  Being a team player is a must
  • Must have the ability to supervise, direct, motivate, train, and discipline subordinate personnel
  • Must have knowledge of safety hazards, appropriate precautions, and OSHA standards applicable to work assignments
  • Must have a working knowledge of safety programs such as confined space, LOTO, hot work, etc

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AS, BS Degree or Technical school graduate.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising power plant maintenance employees
  • Demonstrated experience supervising contractors
  • Demonstrated experience building job packages
  • Familiarity with Boiler Code.  Experience overseeing pressure part repairs
  • Working knowledge of PdM processes, e.g., vibration analysis, thermography, NDE etc.
  • Experience with Power Boilers used in Power Generation
  • Alignment techniques relating to rotating equipment alignment
  • Outage craft management and department scheduling
  • First-hand power plant equipment overhaul experience, e.g., large rotating equipment
  • Experience with rigging protocols, and evaluating lift plans, and critical lift plans
  • Power Plant machine shop experience: lathes, presses, milling machines etc.
  • Qualified power plant electrical worker
  • The candidate has a wide range of skills and experience, sufficient to teach workers from the apprentice level through the journeyman level.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Power plant and office environment
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
  • Promptly respond to emergency call-ins
  • Must have the ability to perform equipment work in confined spaces
  • Must have the ability to work at heights > 150’ – inspections from man-lifts, sky-climbers etc.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid driver’s license required
  • Requires occasional travel to support fleet and/or for training.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
  • Requires wearing all necessary personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, earplugs, etc.) as applicable on a daily basis
  • May be required to work around rotating/energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals
  • Requires operation of a personal computer
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
