Job Overview       

OUTSIDE Operator: Ironwood Generating Station, located in Lebanon, PA is recruiting for an Operations and Maintenance Technician for the operations of a 2x1 combined cycle power plant consisting of Siemens 501G turbines and associated equipment. This position is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility while assigned on shift or while assigned to the maintenance team. These responsibilities include, but is not limited to Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the gas turbine, steam turbine, generators, heat recovery steam generator, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, fire suppression systems, brine concentrators, and all other balance of plant auxiliary equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees, contractors, and public safety.

 

Job Responsibilities             

  • Complete all assigned work in a safe and timely manner.
  • Safe and efficient operation of the facility.
  • Perform facility start-up and shutdown in accordance with established procedures
  • Complete all required training on time.
  • Ensure Environmental compliance (Air and Water)
  • Analyze and report operating irregularities, correcting them whenever possible
  • Maintain facility availability
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and equipment
  • Adhere to all Ironwood Energy Control Program procedures and policies
  • Write high voltage switching orders in accordance with prudent utility practices
  • Perform high voltage switching as required
  • Prepare permits for work as needed
  • Enforce all safe work practices utilizing SMS/OSHA/MSHA/LOTO/PFW
  • Perform contractor safety indoctrinations
  • Update all safety logs
  • Enter & Complete work orders and PM’s as assigned utilizing the CMMS
  • Coordinate operations and maintenance activities on a daily basis
  • Interface with contractors and vendors
  • Develop and implement operating policies and procedures
  • Direct and / or assist plant technicians and other personnel in the performance of their duties along with supporting the training and development of the plant technicians
  • Actively participates in finding, offering advice and solving problems
  • Must be capable of taking the lead on projects
  • Abide by all Ironwood Health and Safety program rules and requirements.

Required Skills / Knowledge             

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergent situations.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's.
  • Will write routine reports, solve practical problems, and clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other personnel.
  • Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.
  • Proficient at Water Chemistry.

 

Experience            

  • 3-5 years power plant operations experience or equivalent.
  • Must be dependable, self-motivated and capable of working with limited supervision
  • Excellent communication skills- including 3-Way communications and Phonetic alphabet
  • Mechanical trouble shooting skills & abilities
  • Experience operating various types of mobile equipment ie:  high lift, fork lift
  • Experience with operating industrial equipment ie:  hydraulic presses, industrial mill equipment, alignment tools
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment ie:  pumps, motors, actuator

 

Education Requirements  

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college to technical school preferred.
  • Must successfully pass the EEI (Edison Electric Institute) Combo POSS B exam

 

Physical Requirements      

  • Able to work overtime as needed to support plant operations and maintenance
  • Able to work a 12 hour rotating shift schedule including week-ends, holidays & call outs
  • Ability to cross train in all areas of the plant and attend off site training as assigned by operations manager
  • Ability to complete all assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in all types of adverse weather conditions, including but not limited to, extreme heat
  • Capable of performing moderate outdoor manual labor including but not limited to climbing stairs and lifting up to 70lbs.
  • Able to climb ladders of various sizes and work at elevated heights
