Job Purpose
Working together under general supervision install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical equipment typically found at a power plant; diagnose malfunctions; determine and take corrective action to restore electrical or electronic equipment or systems to service. Operate waste water treatment and miscellaneous equipment and draw water samples as directed.
Essential Functions:
- Operate equipment under the direction of plant management, for maximum efficiency and output while maintaining environmental compliance and safety.
- Inspect, maintain, dismantle, repair, test, alter, and reassemble such electrical and electronic equipment as motors, generators and related auxiliary equipment, circuit breakers, control equipment, relays, signals, power and light circuits, programmable logic controllers and other digital control instruments as manometers, gauges, flow meters, thermometers, air operated control valves, and other mechanical instrument and control devices, fiber optic systems, transformers, other power equipment.
- Test and repair problems on high and low voltage electrical and electronic circuits and systems.
- Locate and correct trouble in control systems and water treatment systems and station auxiliary equipment.
- Maintain drawings, records and technical manuals; prepare and interpret reports; work from written, computer based and oral instructions, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and specifications;
- Be able to adjust, calibrate and repair a variety of instruments, gauges, digital and optical systems, flow meters, and transmitters
- Write calibration procedures, interpret technical manuals, read electrical and mechanical blueprints, schematics, and preventive maintenance procedures and practices
- Perform basic technical skills such as soldering and pipe fitting
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control systems
- Diagnose equipment problems, report abnormal conditions to the Control Room Operator or plant management, and prepare detailed work requests for plant defects.
- Assist in the planning and layout of jobs including parts and equipment identification and ordering needed to complete the job.
- Prepare work permits and administer the LOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out).
- Perform all activities in accordance with applicable health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Utilize computer and other technology based work management systems as may be required in performing work duties.
- Operate forklifts, and other mobile equipment as required.
- Clean electrical equipment, electrical equipment areas, and shop areas, as required.
- Maintain auxiliaries; inspect and lubricate motors and controllers.
- Use technology based systems to plan work, order parts and materials, enter repair history and perform training.
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain and enhance skills required to perform all I & E Tech duties and assist in the training of others.
- Assist other job classifications as may be required.
- Prepare work orders and input data in work history (SAP).
- Clean, paint, and lubricate equipment.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in all areas of the plant as assigned.
- Will be required to coordinate the work of others.
- Respond to overtime requests as needed, handle special assignments, and perform related work as required
- Perform all activities in accordance with applicable health, safety, and environmental standards
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Required:
High School degree or equivalent education
Electronics or instrumentation degree OR 3-5 years of journeyman level experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must have knowledge of job safety requirements, strong verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills and possess a demonstrated ability to learn. Prior power plant or industrial experience strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
This position is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, cold and hot temperatures and moderate to high noise levels. The position requires a person to occasionally bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, walk, sit, stand and climb. This can be a 24-hour, 7-day work environment, so the position may require overtime and may work a variety of shifts.

The base salary range for this position is $37.28 - $55.41*The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
