Job Summary: 

 

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Fuel Handling area, involving the unloading, storage, reclaiming and delivery of adequate solid fuel to the Limestone Station in order to maintain megawatt generation demands while operating fuel unloading and delivery equipment in a safe, efficient, reliable and environmentally sound manner. Coordinates work efforts of Fuel Handling Operations personnel to ensure all procedures are performed in a safe and efficient manner, to protect the safety of personnel and equipment.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Promotes productivity and teamwork in assigned area with open communication, timely decision making, and use of personal leadership skills to set high standards of performance while providing the direction necessary to achieve that performance

  • Ensures all Company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner, estimates resource requirements, monitors expenditures, and reports on performance of assigned area
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance
  • Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress
  • Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them
  • Coordinates Fuel Handling operations and maintenance activities
  • Coordinates and communicates with maintenance and other organizations
  • Coordinates emergency response efforts (i.e., weather preparedness and staffing, environmental spill response, etc.)
  • Maintains working relationships with employees consistent with personnel policies and procedures and with the principles of the bargaining unit Agreement
  • Assigns priority for maintenance work
  • Oversees coordination of rail deliveries with railroad dispatchers
  • Directs the proper operation of trains, dumpers, stackers, conveyors, trippers, dozers and      other associated equipment at the Fuel Handling facility during normal and emergency operating conditions to control the flow and processing of adequate solid fuel supplies to the generating units.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Normal office environment and/or power plant environment
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle, Texas Driver’s License
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours, including rotating shifts, as required
  • Requires occasional travel outside service area
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Requires operation of a personal computer

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Minimum of 8 (eight) years of experience in plant operations; or an associate degree in an Engineering, Business, Process Technology or related discipline from an accredited college or university and 4 (four) years of experience in plant operations.
  • Valid Driver’s License

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Knowledge of steam power plant system operations, basic power plant principles and fuel handling system operations and effectively applies it to daily decision-making and work task performance.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and personnel management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals
  • Ability to use a personal computer and standard business software
  • Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Knowledge of the bargaining unit Agreement
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, kneel, twist, climb stairs and ladders, and enter plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions including high heat and humidity
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities (up to 50#)
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.) in accordance with plant operating and safety procedures
