Job Summary: 

  • NRG is currently piloting and preparing to scale several new products through microbattles. These initiatives support NRG’s larger ambitions to become more customer-focused and transition from a retail commodity provider to a residential power and home services company. 
  • The team is seeking an experienced marketing professional to help grow these products, from early campaign development and testing to scaled marketing operations. This is a unique role with a high degree of accountability and opportunity to help shape the future of NRG residential power and homes services.
  • The marketing manager will work in a high-caliber, cross-functional team using Agile methodology, interacting daily with other NRG team members and scrum master, frequently with project team lead and other stakeholders. The role requires a high degree of collaboration and a partnership approach with other teams across the organization in developing strategy and approach.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develops data-driven marketing strategy, using internal and external data to inform segmentation and messaging strategy
  • Plans near-term and medium-term marketing campaign roadmap with clear testing plan and rationale for prioritization
  • Coordinates with external marketing agency for development/deployment of marketing campaigns (including DM, email, and mass media) and coordinates with digital and agency to refine paid search/social strategy and plan; liaises with internal stakeholders for approvals
  • Analyzes campaign effectiveness, communicates key insights and takeaways, and makes recommendations to adjust the campaign plan
  • Builds a repeatable marketing strategy playbook to be used in other geographies as project expands
  • Oversees creative of all marketing program creative assets such as customer lifecycle communications, print collateral, emails, etc.
  • Provides strategic input to the data team for creation of customer target lists and propensity model
  • Partners with PR/ Comms team in support of integrated MarComms strategy
  • Understands agile ways of working and participates in and prepares for various sprint ceremonies (planning/review/retrospective)

Working Conditions:

  • Ideally based in Houston
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise
  • Hybrid worker segmentation 1-2 days per week in office; may be negotiable
  • Some travel may be required


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in marketing, advertising, account planning, brand management or related field
  • Significant experience with the following marketing channels: Paid Social, Paid Search, Email, Direct Mail
  • Familiarity with key metrics for each channel, tracking and analyzing KPIs
  • Comfortable with test-and-learn, adaptive approach to marketing


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Agile ways of working (iterative, fast-paced, MVP-driven approach)
  • Start-up or energy industry experience
  • Experience working in or managing a marketing agency
  • Experience bringing a new product or service to market
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and comfort in defining appropriate direction for role and product offering
  • Experience with using data to target customers and personalize messages
  • Experience with GTM approach for rolling out a new product / new program and/or experience in startup environment
  • Experience managing and leading marketing strategy for a product or service, including directing others, coordinating with multiple stakeholders


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interact and coordinate across an organization, including with leaders
  • Ability to present to management and executive teams
  • Ability to multitask and work successfully in a matrix organization with competing priorities
  • Strong PowerPoint skills for building marketing plans and reporting on results
