NRG is seeking a Origination Analyst, with excellent analytical and interpersonal skills to join our On-Site Services team within NRG Business.
The Origination Analyst will work on projects that improve business metrics, deliver incremental value and drive business results. This high-visibility position will work with multiple departments and large data sets on interesting business problems. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to manage, evaluate, and present large amounts of data from multiple platforms in simple, visual formats. The individual must handle multiple competing priorities and solve problems efficiently. Success in this position will require excellent project management and time management skills.
The Origination Analyst must be capable of cross-organizational collaboration with regular communication on progress and be continuously learning and have strong problem-solving skills. The Origination Analyst will identify and capitalize on opportunities that will advance the use of data-driven decisions.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage contractual obligations across counterparties, including project milestones, collateral postings, insurance requirements, and more
- Develop and distribute monthly project status reports and other performance summaries
- Assist in drafting future solicitations (RFI, RFP, RFO) and support related documentation
- Track and analyze project performance metrics (e.g., actual vs. expected production, mark-to-market), including calculating damages for underperformance
- Coordinate with internal teams (Commercial Operations, Settlements, Insurance, Risk, Emissions Desk, Credit) to ensure operational readiness and support end-to-end lifecycle management
- Engage with external stakeholders including developers, contractors, and other project partners.
- Engage with external counterparties and collaborate with Sales and Trading teams to hedge customer loads and other wholesale market transactions, including blocks, shapes and options
- Support customer requests for reporting around renewable energy projects and REC deliveries
- Perform monthly reporting across ISOs on load, supply, and pricing trends; interconnection queue developments; and large load announcements
- Perform preliminary modeling and pro forma analysis of various technologies, product configurations, and market dynamics
- Monitor and analyze evolving market trends and policy shifts to assess impacts and provide the Origination team with timely summaries and strategic guidance
- Develop understanding of ERCOT market fundamentals and evaluate historical and forward data to provide insights and analysis to sales and other internal groups
- Gain in-depth knowledge of internal systems and tools (e.g., VHOS, Aligne) to support deal flow, pricing, and trade entry
- Author white papers and educational materials on market dynamics, especially in renewables and the evolving data center market, and present insights to internal teams
- Perform project management functions including development and tracking of project delivery plans
- Maintain and expand a database of contacts for solicitation distribution
- Review and provide input on contemplated contracts and agreements
- Facilitate negotiation and execution of non-disclosure agreements to support competitive processes and bi-lateral conversations
- Support IT, Data Science, and Environmental Operations’ initiatives to improve origination data and automate analysis and reporting
- Identify opportunities for process and system improvements to enhance efficiency and reporting
- Support ad hoc presentations through research, data analysis, and content development
- Provide general support to the broader Origination team as needed
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Mastery of Microsoft Excel and expertise in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Economics or a related field of study
- Energy industry experience with an understanding of electricity market fundamentals
- Familiarity with utility-scale generation technologies with a focus on inverter based systems like photovoltaics, wind, and energy storage
- Prior experience working within a project management or cross-functional team environment
- Familiarity with financial calculations including, but not limited to, IRR, SPB, NPV, CLV
- Familiarity with SQL queries, including knowledge of relational databases
- Familiarity with statistical tests including t-test, chi-square, normality, and confidence intervals
- Experience in building predictive models using multiple modeling methods

- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and multiple office locations
- Skilled in developing and delivering presentations that simplify complex topics for diverse audiences
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, fostering productive partnerships both internally and externally
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet tight deadlines
- Highly organized with advanced planning capabilities and meticulous attention to detail
