Manager, Corporate Safety (Houston)
Job Summary/Purpose
All members of NRG’s safety function will be expected to own safety, work to prevent incidents and seek to improve with the understanding that zero harm is possible. The Manager, Corporate Safety will be responsible to develop, deploy, manage, and improve assigned safety and occupational health programs and policies. There will be regular opportunities to demonstrate skills in change management, contract management and communications. This position will also be required to present to leadership the health of the program for which they are responsible, communicate any deficiencies identified and develop sustainable solutions to prevent future issues. It will be expected that the Manager, Corporate Safety engages with their peers and customers to support their growth and build bench strength within the safety function.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Manage the development, implementation, maintenance, validation and revision of assigned safety and occupational health management system programs and policies for NRG and Vivint
- Monitor and evaluate changes in applicable Occupational Safety & Health regulations, national consensus standards, and industry best practices to ensure company policies, procedures, and work practices remain current.
- Liaise with and support business unit safety and operational leadership to lead and influence continuous improvement across NRG.
- Support and encourage the growth and development of safety professionals and safety committees across the organization through coaching and mentorship.
- Manage the development, dissemination of safety notifications, alerts and operating experience bulletins for utilization across the organization
- Manage applicable processes, platforms resources and contracts associated with assigned safety programs.
- Develop and perform trending analysis to drive continuous improvement across the organization
- Lead and/or participate in internal and external special project teams with the purpose of continuous improvement.
- Engage, develop, and maintain relationships with external partners, organizations, and memberships.
- Assist with the development and delivery of safety training
- Assist in fostering organization-wide employee involvement and understanding of safety program objectives.
- Provide technical support and direction for companywide health and safety compliance practices.
- Support incident investigations as well as corrective action development and action closure
- Reporting/recording and annual submission of OSHA reports for NRG/Vivint
Working Conditions:
- Work overtime and non-standard working hours as directed
- Ability to travel 25% of the time
- Possess a valid Driver's License at all times
- Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment
- May entail lifting (<50lbs), climbing, walking and standing for extended periods of time
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Required or equivalent work experience
Minimum Experience: 7+ years industry/safety experience; 4 years of Power Plant and/or Home Services experience preferred
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities
- Strong understanding of safety regulations in the Electric Power Generation industry.
- Leadership fundamentals and behaviours.
- Ability to effectively coach and mentor.
- Thorough understanding of applicable OSHA regulations and industry guidelines.
- Experience working within safety and occupational health management systems.
- Experience with change management and project management.
- Ability to observe and engage effectively and partner with employees and contract partners.
- Skilled in analyzing and interpreting data to identify trends utilizing tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerBI, SAS, etc.
- Possess technical expertise relating to safety statistics and related reports
- Demonstrative knowledge of AI tools and applications relevant to the role.
- Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments as required.
