Job Summary:

 

The Regulatory Reporting and Licensing team is seeking an energetic and organized Regulatory Compliance Specialist to work in a fast paced and quickly growing business that participates in electricity and natural gas markets. This position is responsible for preparing and submitting the governmental/regulatory compliance filings for NRG’s retail/wholesale affiliates across the U.S. and Canada. The position reports to the Regulatory Compliance Manager in Houston, Texas.  The preferred location for this position is Houston (TX) or Princeton (NJ).  

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Prepare and file documents necessary to comply with licensing and reporting requirements for 18 U.S. states, 8 Canadian provinces, federal agencies, and regional power grids (Independent System Operators).
  • Perform federal and various state regulations research that relates to regulatory related filings/reporting when needed.
  • Work with contacts across the business to gather data, documents and information for regulatory filings and license renewals, including: Senior management, wholesale, finance, marketing, sales, legal, etc.
  • Understand that this is a deadline/due date driven role.
  • Ensure that materials and filing documents are accurate.
  • Ensure that materials are filed in accordance with each state agencys processes anprocedure.
  • Maintain and organize an archive of regulatory filings and documents.
  • Keep the SharePoint regulatory compliance platform current and up to date.
  • Provide document research and retrieval support to the business.
  • Support internal/external requests/inquiries to retail and wholesale licensing and regulatory reporting.
  • Support handling internal requests for business expansion that may include new license application(s), license renewals for licenses already in place and requests for proposals.
  • Ensures compliance desktop procedures are appropriately documented and updated when needed.
  • Assists with responses for external investigations and inquiries when needed.
  • Federal and state level lobbying reporting experience a plus.
  • Experience in supporting Federal governmental contracts a plus.
  • Some travel may be required.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Four (4) years of compliance/regulatory or other applicable business experience.
  • Business maturity coupled with the highest integrity.
  • Associate degree from an accredited college.
  • Energy industry experience preferred, particularly in a compliance or regulatory role.
  • Executive administrative assistant or paralegal experience a plus.
  • Notary Public is a plus.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to take initiative, be a self-starter and work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and demanding workload while performing in a fast- paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Quickly learns new relevant industry, legal and regulatory information and applies knowledge to specific issues or situations.
  • Extremely organized, detail oriented and proficient. Project management experience is a plus.
  • High-energy, team player with an aptitude for building successful relationships with employees of all levels, as well as external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; SharePoint; and knowledge of regulatory compliance software.
