Job Summary:
- Provide technical and regulatory expertise for the continuous emission monitoring systems for NRG’s owned and operated plants, including oversight operation of mercury continuous emission monitoring systems, particulate monitoring systems, existing gas CEM systems, flow and opacity monitoring systems.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight to NRG’s continuous emission monitoring systems;
- Provide regulatory support for existing continuous emission monitoring systems and regulatory oversight for the implementation of new monitoring systems;
- Coordinate and/or participate in the development, review, and revisions to monitoring plans and QA/QC plans;
- Coordinate and/or participate in the collection, review, and submittal of data to support continuous emission monitoring and reporting programs;
- Conduct and document facility inspections of continuous emission monitoring systems and participate in and document regulatory agency inspections;
- Oversee and evaluate continuous emission monitoring system test results, data and procedures for compliance with applicable environmental requirements;
- Coordinate and/or participate in response to continuous emission monitoring system breakdowns, including field data collection, situation assessment and system analysis to prevent recurrence of these conditions; and
- Coordinate and/or participate in the development and implementation of plans that will ensure compliance with new air quality regulations.
- Prepare/Review emission testing protocols for compliance testing programs, RATA programs and all testing associated with the new MATS requirements and existing TVOP testing requirements.
- Work closely with the plants, system dispatch and the regulatory agencies to ensure all testing schedules fulfill the regulatory requirements and ensure plants are profitable during all testing projects. This will require the ability to coordinate, plan and implement multiple jobs simultaneously.
- Assist the plants as needed to ensure spare parts and preventative maintenance plans are sufficiently implemented to ensure the CEM systems are capable of maintaining high data availability.
- Work closely with the other members of the Energy Services CEM group to ensure best practices are implemented across the NRG fleet with respect to CEM, Emission Testing, QA/QC plans and maintenance and spare parts.
- Assist the coal plants to ensure all Hg calibrators are maintained in accordance with the NIST traceability requirements identified in the MATS rule.
- Coordinate, develop and train plant technicians on maintaining and operating new CEM systems installed. This will also include ensuring plant technicians understand all new monitoring requirements associated with new environmental regulations.
- Assist plants with coordinating diagnostic testing requirements to trouble shoot pollution control devices on an as needed basis. Have working knowledge on how emission control devices work, for coal, gas and oil fired combustion units.
- Have a good working knowledge on EPA Reference Method Testing and possess the ability to review and provide feedback when necessary on issues associated with emission testing programs and associated test results.
- Provide technical guidance, support and insight in multi-year outage forecasting, maintenance and upgrade prioritization, and budgetary development
- Willingness to provide around the clock emergency support, as needed, including video and teleconferencing, and emergency travel throughout the US.

Working Conditions:
- Hybrid work environment with office opportunities in either, Houston, Pittsburgh or Princeton along with NRG Plant locations in the Midwest, East and Texas.
- Requires travel to and from NRG plants or vendor facilities across the country
- Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid driver’s license
- Requires personal protective safety equipment while in the plants
- Overtime or non-standard hours may be required
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in appropriate Engineering discipline from an accredited college and 5 years of experience working with CEMS OR, a minimum of 10 years of experience working with CEMS maintenance and troubleshooting.
- All positions at NRG will require at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective communication skills with craft personnel, site leadership, as well as management.
- Ability to take a leadership role in meetings and communications around CEMS issues.
- Project management skills
- Ability to prepare written reports and presentations to management
- Thorough understanding and proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCad, PI
- Desire to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements:
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment.
