Job Summary
The Agile Product Owner serves as the strategic bridge between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, working with one or more Agile SCRUM teams to deliver high-quality features and user stories that support retail electric and gas customer operations. This role owns the product vision and backlog, collaborates with operational owners, key stakeholders, and cross-functional partners to translate business needs into clear, actionable functional specifications, and drives prioritization to enable SCRUM teams to effectively develop, test, and deploy new retail products, requested enhancements, regulatory updates, and automation opportunities. The Product Owner acts as the primary subject matter expert, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on technical engagement, and applies user-centered design and design-thinking principles to deliver best-in-class, customer-first experiences for NRG retail customers while ensuring execution aligns with Agile best practices and business objectives.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Own and continuously refine the product backlog, ensuring all items are clearly defined, prioritized, and aligned with business objectives, customer needs, regulatory requirements and automation opportunities.
- Partner with business and technology leaders to prioritize the product backlog, serving as the primary owner of prioritization decisions to ensure alignment with strategic goals and maximum business value.

- Translate business needs into clear, concise, and testable User Stories that include:
- Defined business value
- Detailed acceptance criteria
- Explicit system process details (including Discovery, Revenue Manager, SAP transaction paths, tables, and data flows where applicable)
- Ensure User Stories are production-ready with all necessary details before refinement sessions and meet the Definition of Ready (DoR) before progressing to Development.
- Continuously refine the backlog to ensure clarity, alignment, and readiness for development.
- Proactively remove ambiguity from requirements by providing detailed system and process context to ensure development work remains unblocked.
- Maintain comprehensive product documentation, including User Stories, acceptance criteria, process flows and supporting artifacts as required.
- Act as the primary point of contact and liaison between stakeholders and the Agile development team, providing timely and detailed guidance on system functionality and process impacts.
- Actively participate and/or present in Agile ceremonies (backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and quarterly planning events).
- Validate completed work against acceptance criteria and provide formal sign- off on deliverables with full accountability for accuracy and completeness.
- Deliver concise release notes for completed User Stories outlining delivered functionality, direct business value, and any net-new or updated process documentation.
