Job Summary

 

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for daily supervision, monitoring and coaching of employees to ensure a productive workforce in compliance with company policies. Responsibilities include work planning, on-the-job training, arranging for maintenance work, inspections, and initiating requisitions for procurement of tools, materials, equipment, and parts from vendors and services from contractors. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Provides leadership and emphasizes importance of safety and environmental programs by monitoring completion of safety concerns, SSIP and incident investigation action items, attending required safety and environmental meetings, and supporting EKPI goals.
  • Serves as member of plant leadership team and is capable of acting as temporary plant manager or operations manager as needed.
  • Coordinates the development and use of work scope packages for each activity performed during unit outages including all related pre & post outage activities.
  • Oversees the development of work order plan packages that include labor, material, equipment, Lockout-Tagout, technical support and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Leads the development and implementation of outage resource and performance strategies to effectively and efficiently perform all outage work
  • Oversees the development of plans, schedules and budgets for all – planned, maintenance, and forced outage work – including scope growth.
  • Leads the day to day performance and coordination of all outage work including resource allocation, work interference planning, and the common use shared services.
  • Oversees the selection and use of contractors and vendors to perform outage work in accordance with company policy
  • Responsible for the effective use of outage controls, performance reporting, communications, and plan revisions.
  • Promotes productivity and teamwork in Maintenance, Engineering and Operations with open communication, timely decision making, and use of personal leadership skills to set high standards of performance while providing the direction necessary to achieve that performance.
  • Oversees the development and management of outage work order lists to support fast, efficient planning and execution of maintenance and forced outages.
  • Promotes and supports the development of technical, leadership, and business skills of employees to carry out responsibilities in a competitive environment
  • Provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement
  • Ensures development and implementation of assigned area goals, objectives, and initiatives
  • Supports and emphasizes importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance
  • Reviews performance with customers/clients and addresses opportunities for improvement
  • Ensures all resources are utilized in a cost effective manner (especially major costs such as contracted services, craftsmen time and overtime), estimates resource requirements, monitors expenditures, and reports on performance of assigned area
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance
  • Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress
  • Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them
  • Ensures development, implementation, and monitoring of work plans and schedules in their area of responsibility
  • Ensures work performed by external service providers is in support of objectives, responsibilities, and contractual agreement
  • Maintains a working relationship with employees consistent with personnel policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates application of internal and external resources to area of responsibility to support maintenance activities, projects, programs, etc.
  • Develops and maintains long-range, equipment-specific outage plans to ensure cost effective maintenance through implementation of predictive, preventive, and cost analysis tools
  • Provides for the performance, coordination, and inspection of outage related work performed offsite at other facilities.
  • Responsible for achieving at or above target scores for company metrics for work management.
  • Responsible for oversight of third-party, contract and vendor coordination including approving charges, bid package evaluation, evaluation and selection process asbestos management, and scaffolding
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of quality control programs for outage management and execution
  • Provides visible and active support for the plant outage program
  • Provides awareness level training for the plant organization on outage planning and performance standards.
  • Develops and maintains written outage procedures to improve plant outage performance and to ensure consistent execution
  • Maintain focus on continuous improvement and employ industry best practices for outage and work management
  • Ensures that employees correctly use the lock out/tag out program in order to promote safe operations and maintenance
  • Develops appropriate shifts, schedules, staffing, and response programs to control costs and enhance response time and performance
  • Develop and maintain plant O&M, Major Maintenance, and CapEx budgets as they pertain to the Maintenance Department

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum requirements:

  •  Minimum of a high school diploma and 10 years of power plant operations or maintenance experience or Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Business, or related discipline from an accredited college or university, and 7 years of equivalent experience in industrial processes, refineries or power plants.  
  • Experience leading/supervising power plant employees, including bargaining unit employees

 

 

 Preferred:

 

  • Knowledge of Combined Cycle Power Plant operations 
  • Knowledge of quality processes and formal programs

  • Strong leadership skills with an understanding of leadership principles
  • Prefer knowledge of NRG values and corporate goals/objectives

Physical Requirements

 

  • Able to work a rotating shift schedule and to work overtime as needed
  • This position requires the ability to safely use, handle and inspect equipment containing (and perform maintenance in close proximity to sources of), hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals and hazardous wastes as those terms are defined under various safety and environmental regulations.
  • The position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazards identified above. In the employee’s normal immediate work area, this position requires the employee to be routinely familiar with, and to appropriately respond to, the hazards identified above, including, but not limited to repairs on equipment containing chemicals, containment of chemical leaks, response to electrical interruptions, etc. This response would encompass appropriate personal protection techniques, the following of safety procedures such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out procedures, and the following of environmental procedures.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 80 feet and more; crawl to the through confined areas; correctly wear and work using air purifying respirator; lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 50 pounds from the floor to the waist.
  • This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, carry up to 50 pounds and to see, hear, walk and talk effectively.  Must be able to wear an air purifying respirator and use other safety equipment as required.
