Job Summary: 

 

Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Operations Specialist is responsible for the operation of the plant in a safe and environmentally compliant manner while always seeking continuous improvement.  This objective is accomplished by orchestrating numerous tasks carried out by a team of skilled hourly workers while coordinating communications with maintenance, dispatch, superiors, and subordinates.

 Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assuring that all safety rules and regulations are followed including the coordination and supervision of equipment isolation and LOTO procedures.
  • Responsible for assuring that the station is operating within established guidelines for company, state and federal environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Conduct of Operations Manual.
  • Responsible for all personnel in the station, station activities, proper operation of station equipment, and the continuity of operations.
  • Responsible for the proper start-up and shutdown of generating units, including the coordination of switching with Load Dispatchers.
  • Responsible for ensuring competence levels of all direct reports on shift team and developing training plan with Operations Manager to correct deficiencies
  • Responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned equipment and overall plant.
  • Responsible for collateral duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for communicating and leading in accordance with company vision and core values.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Normal power plant environment and/or out-of-doors work environment.  (Including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations.)
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid Driver’s License.
  • Requires operation of a personal computer.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in power plant operations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two-year technical degree
  • 3+ years of demonstrated supervisory experience

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, remaining focused and calm in the face of distractions.
  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal and motivational.
  • Ability and willingness to lead and train subordinates to fully realize maximum team potential in accordance with bargaining unit agreement.
  • Ability to coordinate numerous activities under stress with poise, safely and successfully.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn computerized maintenance management applications.
  • Working knowledge of MS office suite applications.

 

 Physical Requirements:

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours, including rotating shifts as required.
  • Requires occasional travel outside service area
  • Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, masks, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities

 

The salary range for this role is $111,056- $166,584. Pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
