Job Summary/Purpose
All members of NRG’s safety function will be expected to own safety, work to prevent incidents and seek to improve with the understanding that zero harm is possible. The director will provide strategic leadership, direction and management to those within the Vivint safety function. This position will also be required to present to executive leadership on the health of the safety management system and programs for which they are responsible, any deficiencies identified and sustainable solutions to prevent future issues. It will be expected that the director engages with and develops internal safety professionals to support their growth and build bench strength within the safety function. As a leader, the Director will be expected to role model the behaviors expected from your team including, but not limited to, timely reporting, accurate documentation, and meeting deadlines.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Establish and execute data-driven, risk-based strategies to drive sustainable improvement in safety performance and culture across the organization
- Lead team members through managing the development, deployment, maintenance, and validation of assigned safety and occupational health management system components.
- Liaise with and support business unit safety and operational leadership to lead and influence continuous improvement across Vivint and NRG.
- Manage applicable processes, resources and contracts associated with safety programs.
- Lead and/or participate in internal and external special project teams with the purpose of continuous improvement.
- Engage, develop, and maintain relationships with external partners, organizations, and memberships to benchmark and apply industry best practices.
- Support and encourage the growth and development of safety professionals across the organization through coaching and mentorship.
- Engage with field personnel and field leadership to understand and strengthen safety culture across the organization.
- Conduct leadership activities such as work assignments/schedules, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, etc. in accordance with system policies.
- Develop and ensure completion of organization-wide corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of adverse conditions and incidents.
- Leverage internal and external technology resources to innovate and improve safety systems/tools for workers
Working Conditions:
- Work overtime and non-standard working hours as directed
- Ability to travel 25% of the time
- Possess a valid Driver's License at all times
- Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment
- May entail lifting (<50lbs), climbing, walking and standing for extended periods of time
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Required, Master’s Preferred
Minimum Experience: 12+ years industry/safety experience with 3+ years of supervisory experience required. Technology and/or home services experience preferred.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities
- Leadership fundamentals and behaviors.
- Experience driving safety performance and culture with dispersed workforces in highly variable work environments
- Experience developing, deploying and working within safety and occupational health management systems (i.e. ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, ANSI/ASSP Z10).
- Ability to develop and set short- and long-term strategic goals to sustain improvement.
- Experience with change management and project management.
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to effectively coach and mentor.
- Ability to work within matrixed and/or cross-functional teams
- Thorough understanding of applicable OSHA regulations and industry guidelines.
- Investigation/RCA with tools such as Cause Mapping, Fishbone, Five whys, etc.
- Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments as required.
Any Certificates, Licenses, etc.: Required: CSP/SMS/CIH or equivalent
