Job Summary

Monitor plant environmental, safety, health, and security systems that will efficiently and effectively achieve the Company’s goal of an environmentally compliant, injury-free workplace that is free from internal and external threats.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Actively oversee, enforce, and expediently update environmental compliance programs regarding air, water, waste, and any other environmental requirements.
  • Oversee evaluation of environmental test results, laboratory data and or procedures for compliance with applicable regulations and permit requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting activities on plant environmental systems and equipment.
  • Implement, direct, administer, evaluate, and assist the corporation and facilities with total occupational safety, health, and security programs, specific program elements, and program activities for all projects.  Ensure systems are in place to drive the safety, health, and security accountabilities and responsibilities at the plant level.
  • Maintain applicable regulation and permit reporting, renewal and related document requirements as required by law.
  • Be a technical expert available to plant personnel 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Provide technical interpretation and compliance recommendations for the wide variety of Environmental Regulations/Permit Requirements (local, federal, state) OSHA regulations (federal and state), and asset protection, physical security, personnel security and information security, and consultative services on occupational health standards, toxicological, and employee exposure issues.
  • Effectively maintain a high knowledge level and understanding of applicable environmental regulations, safety regulations, and policies and procedures.
  • Maintain environmental and safety records management, environmental and safety manuals and procedures whenever required by agencies or by changes in operations, regulations, interpretations or company policy directives
  • Conduct, review, and assess safety, health, and security performance reviews.  Monitor and affect change to Key Safety Issues.
  • Assess notices from Office of Homeland Security, communicate appropriate actions for imminent-danger or sub-standard conditions to regional safety, health and security managers and plant personnel.
  • Work closely with local safety and environmental authorities and facility project management teams.
  • Conduct site audits/inspections/evaluations with environmental and safety authorities as necessary.
  • Responsible for facility occupational safety, security, and environmental inspection programs to proactively detect, correct and minimize the impact of any non-compliance issues.
  • Develops and provides necessary training of plant personnel so that all facility employees have the knowledge and skills to comply with safety and environmental regulations and policies.
  • Develop and conduct site specific contractor training program.
  • Monitor contractor environmental associated field work to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and permit requirements.
  • Maintain applicable active certifications and/or licenses, such as DOT, OSHA, and EPA certifications.

 

Scope:

  • Works under limited supervision in a team environment. Supervises operators and contractors as needed. Involves contact with all levels of employees through senior management, and frequent external contact with outside business partners such as vendors, suppliers and contractors.

 

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering with minimum of 3 years experience in environmental and/or safety in an industrial setting or equivalent work experience demonstrated in a similar role/position.
  • Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal Environmental Regulations; OSHA Regulations; Occupational Health Standards; and Homeland Security Regulations.
  • Knowledge of power plant operation and maintenance activities.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical information to plant personnel.
  • Personal ability to strongly influence and motivate employees and management in all areas of occupational health and safety.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage staff, influencing results through others.
  • On call availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Ability to physically conduct detailed audit/inspection of facilities.
  • Be available for unscheduled overtime outside normal hours for emergency call in.
  • Available for travel as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of EH&S rules, regulations and procedures preferred
  • Environmental control experience preferred.
  • Capital project experience preferred.

 

The base salary range for this position is: $101,760 - $167,880* *The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
