Job Summary:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the effective, efficient and safe maintenance of all power plant mechanical, electrical, instrument and control systems and equipment. This position plans, budgets, schedules and supervises maintenance activities to maximize plant availability and reliability, including oversight of spare parts, replacement parts and consumables. The Maintenance Manager supervises maintenance employees and manages contractor relationships while ensuring compliance with applicable local, state and federal environmental and safety requirements. The Maintenance Manager works closely with the Plant Manager to support plant safety, outage, budget, schedule and cost targets.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with Operations to determine work plans and resources necessary to achieve plant production targets.
- Assumes a proactive role in assessing risks to plant availability and reliability and ensures that measures are taken to correct problems with equipment or systems that may cause these problems.
- Develops, schedules and supervises daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal maintenance work of plant systems including ash removal, fuel delivery, water supply, steam , electrical , pollution control, and rolling stock systems and equipment.
- Organizes, maintains and applies corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance work orders, schedules and records.
- Identifies, troubleshoots and communicates breakdowns or upset conditions of plant systems and equipment to Operations, and coordinates equipment access needed for maintenance projects.
- Researches and obtains parts and materials to maintain plant systems and equipment
- Plans, executes and manages annual, seasonal, planned, maintenance and forced outage work, including work scopes, schedules, budgets, labor coordination, vendor/contractor support, materials, equipment and scope changes.
- Prepares the maintenance budget and participates in the overall plant budget preparation process. Works throughout the budget year to manage maintenance expenditures to ensure that target goals are met or expenses are below budgeted levels.
- Administers and manages compliance with plant and corporate policies, procedures and practices.
- Participates in the administrative updating of operating instruction manuals, technical references, prints and engineering drawings and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Oversees the maintenance crew, including work assignments, task designation, hiring, promotions, timekeeping, performance management, disciplinary actions and separation for Maintenance employees.
- Develops and delivers plant system and equipment training to new and existing Maintenance crew members.
- Represents plant as Outage Authority and process subject matter expert in support of corporate activities and initiatives
- Ensures housekeeping responsibilities of Maintenance crew to meet or exceed expectations.
- Promotes safety awareness by adhering to company and site-specific safety requirements, identifying hazards, taking corrective action and supporting safety meetings, training and plant safety programs as required.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires the ability to safely use, handle and inspect equipment containing (and perform maintenance in close proximity to sources of), hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals and hazardous wastes as those terms are defined under various safety and environmental regulations.
- The position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazards identified above. In the employee's normal immediate work area, this position requires the employee to be routinely familiar with, and to appropriately respond to, the hazards identified above, including, but not limited to repairs on equipment containing chemicals, containment of chemical leaks, response to electrical interruptions, etc. This response would encompass appropriate personal protection techniques, the following of safety procedures such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out procedures, and the following of environmental procedures.
- The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and may also receive direction or be assigned other work duties from other members of company management.
- The position requires availability for emergency 24 hour on call maintenance.
Minimum Requirements:
Education/Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of power plant operations or maintenance experience or
- Baccalaureate degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline from an accredited college or university, and 7 years of equivalent experience in a related field
- The position is a DOT PHMSA covered position and requires the successful candidate to pass a preemployment DOT drug screen and drug and alcohol testing background check. Once hired, employee will be a participant in the NRG DOT Program.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience leading/supervising employees in a related field
- Project Management skills
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in order to solve problems of both a technical and operational nature
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at various levels at the plant.
- Computer skills, including working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook (or equivalents).
Physical Requirements (Demand and Frequency):
- Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; climb ladders, stairwells and elevated platforms; enter and work in confined spaces; see, hear, walk and talk effectively; correctly wear and use an air-purifying respirator and other required safety equipment; and lift, carry or move up to 50 pounds, including lifting a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions.
