Position Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure compliance with NRG and Environmental, Health and Safety policies, programs and procedures as well as Federal, State and Local safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Provide support as needed to Maintenance and Operations Departments on emergency and urgent work.
  • Perform the Gas Turbine Plant Operator functions as needed. 
  • Promote productivity and teamwork in assigned area with open communication and timely decision making.
  • Ensure all Company resources are utilized in a cost effective manner, estimate resource requirements, monitor expenditures, and report on performance of assigned area.
  • Inspect, maintain and diagnose equipment, report any abnormal conditions to the plant management and prepare detailed work requests for plant defects.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems utilizing technical reference manuals and documents.
  • Operate mobile cranes, forklifts, bobcats and other heavy equipment as required.
  • Read, interpret, and implement technical information found in manufacturers and OEM technical manuals, electrical and mechanical P &IDs, and operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Associate degree in industrial technology with two years of work related experience; or high school diploma or GED plus five years of work related experience in power plant, industrial plant or equivalent experience as a Mechanic preferred.
  • Ability to train and certify for the Gas Turbine Plant Operator function for assignment as needed.
  • Knowledgeable with machine coupling alignment.
  • Knowledgeable with maintenance of pumps, compressors, turbines, generators, etc.
  • Machine shop experience preferred.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Word and Excel is required.
  • Experience with basic business systems such as SAP, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be physically capable of climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Must be capable of physically demanding work at heights and with adverse conditions during maintenance activities as required.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds of weight. 
  • Must be physically capable of passing a respirator physical and respirator fit test.
  • Position will require physical exam and random drug screening.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
