Summary

 

This position is accountable for leading the routine maintenance and outage activities at the natural gas-fired (formerly coal-fired) New Castle Generating Station. This position is a member of the Station’s Leadership Team and responsible to provide leadership to the station’s maintenance employees   The successful candidate will be held personally responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and administration of maintenance strategy to meet the operating needs of the plant in a modern, challenging and competitive environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide leadership in accordance with the Company’s Operating Principles with a devoted and clear emphasis on safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Develops maintenance procedures, work methods and practices to ensure that maintenance is performed on generating station equipment in a manner which ensures that inspection expediency, equipment reliability, personnel safety and environmental compliance is not adversely affected.
  • Provide prudent direction to the Station’s maintenance personnel.  Serve as an active member of the team and contribute toward the station’s success. 
  • Manage all maintenance, engineering, planning and stores personnel.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and communicate the station’s maintenance plan/process and revise as appropriate to ensure continuous improvement. 
  • Lead the inspection effort, formulate repair recommendations, and execute repairs of the generating station equipment on both scheduled and forced outages.
  • Manage and be accountable for all forced, scheduled and maintenance outage activities.  Provide coordination of all station departments, projects, and support groups to result in successful completion of the outage.
  • Leads the development of a post-outage report that compiles data that documents the work performed and equipment condition, and makes future repair, inspection, and spare parts recommendations.
  • Responsible for managing the contractor workforce on-site to ensure safety compliance and productivity.
  • Responsible for station direction of the supply chain activities including storeroom management and procurement activities.
  • Support the preparation and control of the maintenance portion of the station’s budget. 
  • Manage capital and O&M projects from initial scope through final completion.
  • Ensure management of change is followed by all station modifications/additions.
  • Maintain an adequate spare parts inventory to manage equipment availability and reduce lost margin.
  • Maintain the facilities and remaining operating equipment at the retired Elrama, PA and Niles, OH Generating Stations.
  • Support the station’s Plant Manager in the performance of his/her accountabilities.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Highschool Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the maintenance of power plant mechanical and/or electrical systems 
  • A minimum of Five (5) years of managerial/supervisory experience 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • A four-year Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is preferred with a minimum of 10 years of experience in power plant operations. A degree may be substituted with fourteen years of progressively responsible experience within maintenance related fields.

  • An excellent working knowledge of power plant steam, mechanical, electrical and chemical systems and their appropriate integration for efficient and effective production.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to garner the respect of experienced, dedicated maintenance personnel.

  • Complex problem solving and a high tolerance for stress.
  • Strong communications skills.

  • Maintains composure and uses good judgment under stressful circumstances.
  • Experience with maintenance planning.
  • A working knowledge of SAP would be a plus.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Some office environment and extensive time spent out in an industrial power plant environment.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid driver’s license in the state of residency.
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required.
  • Requires occasional travel outside service area.
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals, in confined spaces or from elevated heights.
