Job Summary: 

Performs day-to-day activities in the receipt, storage, maintenance and issue of stock and non-stock materials. 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Understands and adheres to safe work practices, station safety guidelines, policies, and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices for receiving, storing, maintaining, and issuing material.
  • Receives material from vendors and common carriers by unloading trucks, and inspects material for discrepancies, ensures delivery documentation matches purchase documentation.
  • Checks material for quantity, physical condition, weight, and capacity.
  • Maintains storeroom inventory logs including material locations, quantities dates received and dates issued.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Power Plant Environment-Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions in accordance with Heat Stress procedures. Around large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment in high noise areas, and/or in confined places, on elevations in excess of 250 feet, or from platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater. Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial devices.
  • Must be prepared to work irregular hours and respond to emergency callout 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
  • Ability to work in mentally stressful environments: must be able to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED  equivalent
  • Must have previous experience working in an industrial environment
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics and grammar
  • Must receive a rating of “recommended” on the NRG Energy Pre-Employment Skills Assessment
  • Must have basic computer knowledge
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license
  • Must be available to work overtime, outside of core business hours if needed
  • Lift, carry, position and use tools and/or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a material handler role
  • Some knowledge of SAP
  • Able to create and maintain inventory spreadsheets and warehouse maps

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment (e.g. forklift, plant vehicles, etc.) and maintain operating licenses and certifications.
  • Knowledge of common power plant materials.
  • Ability to inspect and maintain material handling equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to transport material between warehouses and site locations and maintain logs.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to accomplish work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and associated software to perform warehouse activities.
  • Ability to perform analysis and run Ad-hoc reports, as needed.
  • Ability to create releases, prepare and ship material to the vendor for repair; store and maintain pending repair material.
  • Ability to prepare material deficiency reports, process material return authorization for discrepant material.
  • Ability to coordinate the collection and disposition of all scrap metal, wire, wood, lead, and copper.
  • Ability to maintain inventory records and complete inventory reconciliation.
  • Ability to coordinate inspections and maintain inspection logs and documentation.
  • Ability to manage commodities with limited Shelf-Life guidelines.
  • Ability to manage stocks of bottled and specialty gases for labs, plants, and warehouse.
  • Ability to identify and correct discrepancies in material and material storage.
  • Ability to perform inventory audits and make adjustments based on audit results.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping duties as required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Daily work expectation requires the ability to perform tasks by walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, and working with hand tools (up to 25 pounds) in position above and below the head, and extended from the body to complete repairs.
  • Lift, carry, position and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 50 lbs.) in awkward positions, swing various weights of sledgehammers, stoop and bend as required.
  • Ability to twist the body and neck while driving company vehicles or operating company equipment.
  • Work with and around hazardous and non-hazardous materials (reference the waste management guidance manual).
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required i.e.…steel-toed boots, goggles, safety glasses etc.
  • Have the ability to discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals.
  • Ability to discern assorted colors
