This position supports Site O&M teams and contractors who construct and maintain substation and transmission line assets. This position is responsible for the direct supervision and scheduling of high voltage personnel and contractors in the preparation and execution of Substation Maintenance.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Manages scope and project details of all substation maintenances and outages
  • Create procedures for all substation maintenances
  • Review equipment and technical specifications of the sites ahead of maintenance schedules to improve efficiency and understand potential issues and risks in advance
  • Document and explain variances in the actual job task work hours versus estimated job task work hours
  • Monitor the progress and status of work and raise issues to the site managers to identify areas for improvement and opportunities to improve efficiencies
  • Ensure accurate completion of NERC related documentation and coordinate with the compliance team
  • Achieves higher equipment availability and improves maintenance effectiveness through self-developed initiatives as well as procedures suggested by the O&M team
  • Manages backlogged preventive, predictive and corrective Substation Maintenance tasks based on their overall risk to equipment health, system reliability, public and employee safety, and the environment
  • Actively engage in ongoing reliability, availability and maintainability improvement efforts; including Preventative Maintenance Optimization (PMO), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Develops and continuously improves personal and departmental planning and scheduling work processes by incorporating maintenance and reliability best practices and feedback from field personnel

 

Education / Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar (e.g. military training in a similar field) is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in substation planning or substation O&M
  • Experience in renewable energy is desired

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Normal office environment and/or plant environment, including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
  • Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
  • Flexibility to work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
  • Requires travel relating to initial program set-up (up to 50%)
