Summary:

This position is responsible for maintenance of district steam distribution systems in downtown San Francisco.  The incumbent will assist in providing uninterrupted customer service in a safe and productive manner.

 

Responsibilities:

  • This position requires technical aptitude to be able to assist or perform maintenance/operational tasks as required.
  • Performs locates of pipeline and associated underground facilities
  • Repair pipeline, such as condensate traps, valves, and expansion joints
  • Perform weekly/monthly meter readings at customer locations
  • Organize parts inventory for equipment at multiple sites and distribution system
  • Ability to interact and communicate with contractors or customers of NRG.
  • Provide day to day communication to supervisor with respect to projects and condition of equipment
  • Establishes the highest standards of business conduct, discipline, and ethical behavior to ensure continuing compliance with company policies and procedures

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 year experience required  working in maintenance/mechanical and piping.
  • 2 years’ experience working in power/energy plant or utilities desired but not required
  • Experience working with contractors and vendors
  • Experience adhering to safety policies and environmental compliance
  • Experience with confined space guidelines and regulations

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, and motivational
  • Ability to coordinate numerous activities under stress with poise, safely and successfully
  • Possess an excellent working knowledge of operations and maintenance for efficient and effective production
  • Computer skills and aptitude to learn required database systems and training modules
  • Candidates must receive a rating of “Recommended” on the NRG Pre-Employment Skills Assessment.
  • The incumbent is required to work at the energy plant site as required
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, fall protection etc.)
  • Requires working around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Requires ability to climb ladders, move or assist in moving large awkward objects, using large tools for repairing equipment which requires pushing/pulling of tools
  • Requires operation of a personal computer.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle; Valid State Driver’s License
  • May be called in to work overtime nights or weekends on occasion.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Normal power plant environment and/or outdoor work environment in all seasons
  • Includes working at heights, in manholes, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at plant work locations
  • Working in confined space and withstand elevated temperatures
  • Regular extended and non-standard hours during critical issue resolution and to achieve project milestones
