Job Summary: 

Plan and manage all aspects of the Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) reporting and QA requirements.  Prepare and submit required electronic and hardcopy reports on a timely basis to regulatory agencies and management, ensuring compliance with all permits, regulations, agreements, and laws. Keep fully informed on all technical and regulation changes relating to air reporting and the power plants. Provide support, guidance, oversight, reporting and tracking of environmental programs.  Assist in other reporting and licensing, as required.  Continuous improvement of environmental performance by enhancing NRG processes to ensure compliance and increased efficiency for supported operations.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for NRG’s environmental compliance activities for selected media at assigned facilities; working with the established teams and processes at each of our plants to support, facilitate and supplement existing regional and plant compliance efforts
  • Generate comprehensive and accurate electronic data reports, using the CEM equipment, data acquisition & handling systems, PLCs, dataloggers, and the NRG Network
  • Administer and maintain all aspects of CEMs computer equipment:  users, system backups, performance, and availability.  Coordinate and perform hardware and software changes and design enhancements
  • Submit applications and modify regulatory plans
  • Provide environmental support of project teams for major projects and development initiatives
  • Conduct and document facility inspections and compliance certifications; participate in and document regulatory agency facility inspections
  • Respond to environmental events at NRG facilities, as required
  • Provide environmental support for facility operations, including technical assistance, training, system operation analysis and recordkeeping
  • Provide leadership and support for monitoring environmental issues and developing environmental opportunities.  Work closely with Commercial Operations, Sustainability, Government Affairs, Plant Operations, Regulatory, Communications and Environmental to achieve this goal
  • Enhance the image and acceptance of the Company’s environmentally responsible position

 

Working Conditions:

  • Power plant, open office environment
  • Travel 20-25% of time

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the environmental field
  • Experience with environmental regulations and agency interaction
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.  Must possess a valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in the environmental field preferred
  • Knowledge of power plant operations and the associated environmental compliance issues preferred
  • Conversant in major CEM Data Acquisition & Handling Systems (DAHS), EPA’s Emission Collection & Monitoring Plan System (ECMPS) and Central Data Exchange (CDX) preferred
  • General knowledge of major environmental air programs (CAA Part 60 & 75, CSAPR, MATS, RGGI, etc.) and their requirements, as well as other relevant federal, state and regional regulations and policies
  • Conversant in Microsoft Office products
