Purpose: Preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and various account analyses in support of the General Accounting function at NRG Energy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for accounting, recording, reporting and coordinating with others for common transactions and shared processes across all NRG entities such as insurance, prepaid expenses, account payable accruals, cash clearing accounts, other assets/liabilities, monitoring telecommunication allocation, Pcard allocation, etc.
  • Responsible for all aspects of accounting, recording, reporting and coordinating with others for NRG corporate programs.
  • Preparation of related account reconciliations, including multiple bank reconciliations in accordance with company policy.
  • Preparation of various analysis in support of Management and Financial Reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Responsible for responding to questions from regional accountants, external auditors, and internal auditors.
  • Able to perform research within the general ledger and work with IT regarding the flow of transactions.
  • Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Analyze financial results to gain understanding of variances for designated area of responsibility.
  • Assist with special projects as requested.
  • Assist with Sarbanes Oxley testing.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with in accounting with experience in general accounting and/or financial reporting with an emphasis on multiple company structure
  • 2-4 years of public or private accounting experience, including some or all of the following: journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, monthly closing process, and monthly reports
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Knowledge of accounting software, specifically SAP and HFM/Hyperion preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite in particular Excel.
  • SAP experience is desired
  • Proven attention to detail; demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to create and work with spreadsheets and/or databases.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to set priorities and respond to changing demands from multiple sources.
