Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall transmission related analytics and support to the NRG’s Commercial Operation Trading Desks and NRG Regions. This will include support for new developments as well as existing assets in the regions
  • Support commercial trading desks regarding day to day transmission and congestion issues
  • Conduct analysis for CRR and FTR auctions in various markets for both hedge and risk participations
  • Actively participate in CRR and FTR paths selections and bid prices
  • Perform transmission analyses either in-house or by means of outsourcing to identify potential locations for new development and assess the impacts of new transmission projects
  • Outline the study requirements for outsourced analysis, identify the consultant, and present the findings to the involved personnel and senior management
  • File interconnect requests with the ISOs, identify potential issues associated with the requests, communicate them to senior management, and provide recommendations to address them efficiently
  • Follow up ISOs and RTOs transmission meetings and have a solid understanding of the major planning projects.  Identify potential threats and opportunities associated with these projects
  • Perform ATC calculations to determine the available transmission capacity at potential developmental locations
  • Deep understanding of nodal pricing components of energy, congestion, and marginal losses as well as physical losses to support PPAs
  •  Provide-technical transmission expertise, training and consultation to the regions personnel and senior management as required.
  • Communicate with other department personnel, internal company contacts and outside contracts to remain informed of different transmission engineering needs and status of current transmission projects in various NERC regions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 5 years of related transmission experience (higher degrees are preferred). Experience in a merchant environment as well ISO would be beneficial.
  • Must have experience with the nodal production cost software such as DAYZER, UPLAN, or PROMOD and interpretation of their results.
  • Knowledge of PSS/E, or PowerWorld load flow software is preferred
  • Prior FTR or CRR experience would be a significant asset
  • Familiarity with any of ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE will be required.  Also knowledge of FERC rulings in any of these markets is an asset.
  • Familiar with all NERC regions and the associated process’s to reserve wholesale transmission.
  • Proven problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in applying established transmission techniques, procedures or standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to set priorities for multiple concurrent projects
