Job Summary:  Provide commercial transmission-related support for managing portfolio congestion

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall transmission-related analytics to the NRG’s Commercial Operations Trading Desks and NRG asset management team. This will include support for new developments as well as existing assets in different PJM/MISO/SPP markets.
  • Support commercial trading desks regarding day-to-day transmission and congestion issues
  • Provide analysis for FTR auctions in PJM/MISO/SPP markets for both hedging and incremental purposes.
  • Perform transmission analyses to identify potential locations for new development. Assess the impacts of new transmission projects.
  • Research and communicate impacts of major PJM/MISO/SPP planning projects.  Identify potential threats and opportunities associated with these projects.
  • Work with team members and IT group to develop/improve FTR trading tools.
  • Will be able to convert good FTR analysis skills into FTR trading

 

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university is required
  • Minimum 2 years of related transmission experience required
  • Proficient with nodal production cost software such as DAYZER, UPLAN, or PROMOD and interpretation of their results
  • Proficiency in PowerWorld load flow software is required.
  • Basic computer programming skills (e.g. VBA, SQL, Python, etc.) required
  • Familiarity with one or more of PJM, MISO or SPP markets required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ISO work experience preferred
  • Prior FTR/CRR trading experience is preferred

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven problem-solving skills and quick learner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
