Job Summary: Provide professional advice for NRG and its subsidiaries, across all regions and businesses, as to FERC and state regulatory matters.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Independently provide counsel to internal clients on FERC policy, ISO/RTO market design and state rate design affecting NRG’s businesses  
  • Draft pleadings at FERC and other agencies to implement regulatory strategies and achieve clients’ business objectives
  • Engage in stakeholder advocacy efforts at RTOs/ISOs and pursue those changes through the FERC process
  • Support NRG’s mandatory energy reporting and NERC compliance functions
  • Ability to strategically manage counsel in multiple jurisdictions at the same time concerning litigated and arbitrated matters while responding to internal client demands
  • Advise clients regarding regulatory aspects of transactions and project development including reviewing interconnection agreements and regulatory approvals
  • Assist other attorneys or the General Counsel on projects as necessary

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel 10% of time

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate with 4-8 years of relevant legal experience
  • Solid understanding of energy regulatory matters and market design policy at either the federal or state level

  • Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on written work product
  • Able to work independently and provide a high level of client services and build consensus
  • Business acumen and excellent commercial judgment

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; demonstrated ability to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources
