As a Director, you will be responsible for assisting and implementing the sales and marketing strategy of Clearway Energy Group's utility assets serving Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs), Municipal Utilities, Co-Operatives, competitive retail suppliers and market-based hedge providers..


Responsibilities:

 

Originate, structure, and drive towards close wholesale utility power offtake contracts:

 

  • Lead the identification of new origination prospects, propose outreach strategy for all products and technologies under development, including key customer messaging.
  • Work with Inside Sales, Lead Generation and Account Management teams in the development of the ideal customer profile while defining the value proposition by asset for Utility and C&I offtakes.
  • Direct pricing sensitivities based on customer goals/priorities in alignment with project model underwriting assumptions.
  • Actively manage and build relationships with existing and new customers in the IOU, CCA (as appropriate) Muni and Co-op market segments.
  • Lead the negotiation of long term power sale agreements with wholesale offtake to support the financing and build out of new renewable energy projects.

 

Oversee the internal support teams though all aspects of the complex sales process through to closing:

 

  • Evaluate requests for bids and assist with bid preparation.
  • Provide market views on competitiveness for RFPs, leading the negotiation and structuring of revenue contracts, whether physical or financial.
  • Develop offtake outreach plans and positioning to the market, including ITC, PTC strategy, market penetration strategy, analysis of markets, financing, etc.
  • Conduct research into customers’ businesses and energy procurement activities and develop initial ideas for CLEARWAY offerings.
  • Lead pricing and proposal strategies to customers
  • Oversee the preparation of proposals and presentation materials for customers and buyers.
  • Maintain customer records in Salesforce.com

 

Contribute to wholesale strategy outlook:

 

  • Provide input to routine power market analysis of the policies that will impact market structure, and either increase/decrease supply base, or alter load/demand.
  • Participate in energy working groups, professional organizations, trade shows & conferences
  • Seek opportunities and deal structures that allow for bilateral transactions with customers.
  • Remain abreast of renewable energy opportunities in the United States and the national industry trends impacting the future of wind and renewable development opportunities and their competitiveness as they relate to customers.
  • Anticipate major procurement events and industry news, including RFPs and integrated resource plans, keeping the team informed as well as synthesizing content and suggesting potential offerings.
  • Provide offtake analysis on new M&A acquisition opportunities based on customer demand and value proposition
  • Exhibit expertise and continual growth of knowledge in power markets and act as a resource to the M&A and Development teams.  

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Proven record of accomplishments in structuring, negotiating, and executing power sale agreements
  • Established network of industry contacts with IOUs, Muni’s, Co-ops and CCAs
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Highly motivated self-starter, friendly personality, and good team player.
  • Strong aptitude for analytical and financial modeling with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the energy industry including regulated and de-regulated electricity markets and project financing structures and key value drivers.
  • Effective organizational skills including the ability to independently prioritize and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong desire to advance the adoption and deployment of renewable energy solutions across North America.

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in renewables, preferably in an origination or development role
  • A Bachelor's Degree with strong academic record from a leading undergraduate program, ideally in finance, accounting, business administration, economics or engineering
  • Strong attention to detail and inclination towards structure, organization, and process – as well as the ability to examine, question, and improve on the inputs and recommendations of others.
  • Capacity and willingness to perform job duties under time pressure from external and internal deadlines.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent efforts, track progress and needs of each, and provide high quality deliverables accurately and on time
  • Able to work well with geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Approximately 60-70% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe etc.), telephones, and general office equipment. Up to 30-40% of the time is spent onsite with clients, partners, counterparties and trade shows creating and executing on business opportunities. Fulfills all delegated tasks, many of which may be loosely associated with the primary assignment of the job description.
