Job Summary: 

NRG is seeking a dynamic, seasoned professional to join its state Regulatory Affairs Team. The primary focus of the position is retail electric and gas markets in the Eastern U.S. The candidate must possess existing relationships - - as well as the ability to successfully cultivate new relationships - - with regulatory agency staff, Commissioners, and key stakeholders, along with a strong working knowledge of retail energy policy issues.  The Candidate will be responsible for advocating regulatory policies that advance retail energy competition at the state level. The position reports to the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Market Development.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the appropriate business and/or corporate functions, develop and persuasively advocate company positions to regulatory agencies, policymakers, and key stakeholders in support of the Company’s business goals.
  • Monitor state regulatory agency docket filings of interest to the Business; alert the business to emerging issues and develop/deploy regulatory responses.
  • Participate directly in Commission proceedings.
  • Prepare and present testimony in front of regulatory agencies.
  • Manage outside consultants.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to the Business on existing as well as new regulations as needed.
  • Attend and represent the Company at regulatory conferences.
  • Identify new opportunities to expand competitive markets, new product development, etc.
  • Interface with regulated utilities in support of business operations.
  • Provide due diligence support for M&A activity.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must work well under pressure and be able to manage simultaneous projects. 
  • Must be willing to commit to long hours at times in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required in a field related to regulatory affairs, public affairs, law, business or communications.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of experience is required monitoring, developing, and coordinating regulatory strategy. Retail energy industry experience preferred, particularly in a regulatory role.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Must have thorough understanding of state regulatory processes and the ability to understand agency rules.
  • Must have outstanding communication, public relations and presentation skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to establish excellent rapport with individuals on all levels.
  • Must excel at working as part of a team, as well as working independently.
  • Moderate to high amount of travel is required.

 

**Position can be based in a location other than Princeton, NJ.**
