Job Summary: 


Manage overall cash flow reporting for NRG – inclusive of rating agency presentations and earnings material for CFO.  Responsible for the development of the cash flow budget, forecasts and variance analysis and monthly reporting.  Position has significant exposure to senior management


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


The Director, Cash Flow Reporting will be responsible for the reporting and analysis of NRG’s cash flows.  This position will be responsible for the consolidated monthly cash flow analysis and reporting, preparation and review of annual cash flow budget and long-term plans as well as monthly cash flow forecasts.  The Director will also work on ad hoc strategic and financial analysis and reporting as requested by the CFO, Controller, VP of FP&A and other senior management. 


Specific duties will include:


Manage the preparation of the NRG consolidated Cash Flow Budget, Forecast and Analysis:

Oversee and prepare analyses for use by Senior Management to evaluate the company’s cash flow performance against budget, forecast and prior period.  This includes:


  • Performing analysis and thorough variance explanations of consolidated cash flow results against budget, forecasts and prior year results as well as guidance provided to the Street and materials to the Board
  • Prepare the consolidated cash flow budget and forecasts
  • Reviewing and coordinating all aspects of the cash flow budget, forecast, analysis with the business Controllers/Finance leads
  • Responsible for budgeting, forecasting and reporting on capital expenditures and tracking the company’s growth investment spending
  • Preparing routine and special reports for the CFO, Controller, VP of FP&A and other senior management as necessary


Manage the preparation of Quarterly Earnings, Board Presentations and Rating Agency Finance material:

Manage the finance area in the preparation of quarterly data for the company’s earnings call as well as presentations for the Board and Ratings Agency meetings:


  • Manage the preparation of finance material for the earnings deck, press release and supporting documentation for the quarterly earnings calls
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations to the Board, including the quarterly Board Overview package and other Board submitted financial material


Manage the preparation of valuations and/or “look-back” analysis for company/ region/individual plants

Preparation of material upon requests for valuations of assets and compare project benefits versus management/Board approved financial models.


  • Valuations – Individual assets, groups of assets and/or whole regions are continuously reviewed to determine the value of the asset in the event of a sale or retirement.  Management uses these valuations to aid them in determining if capital investments are economic
  • Look-back analysis – NRG has an extensive repowering program and Board approved projects require that look backs are completed to analyze if project returns are achieved.  Work with project sponsor to understand financial model that led to the project approval


Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment.
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise.


Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in finance and/or accounting or comparable business field required
  • Minimum ten years of experience in financial analysis


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • CPA or CFA preferred


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with Oracle Hyperion platform is preferred, but not required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience with team building and developing team members
  • Ability to work independently and complete responsibilities with little supervision, yet work well in team oriented culture
  • Ability to resolve complex finance and accounting issues
  • High level of motivation and aptitude for problem solving, continuous process improvements and with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as this position requires significant interface with outside stakeholders and the senior managment team
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
