Job Summary: 

This position is responsible for providing credit risk analysis and support to NRG’s businesses with primary emphasis on the credit reviews and contract negotiations. The Credit Risk Management department is an integral component of NRG’s Risk group that reports to the company’s Chief Risk Officer. The Credit Risk Management team is tasked with developing and implementing credit policy across the organization for all segments of the business.  Key responsibilities of the group include identifying, quantifying, and mitigating credit risk. The group interfaces with Legal, Commercial Operations, Strategy, Accounting, IT, Treasury sales, and upper management regularly.

 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assessing counterparty creditworthiness (includes evaluating credit rating data,  financial statement analysis, and financial modeling)
  • Monitoring and reporting of retail, and wholesale counterparty credit exposure
  • Frequent interaction with the origination team when evaluating new transactions
  • Evaluation of credit exposure for new and existing transactions while ensuring compliance with Risk
  • Credit exposure modeling for potential transactions
  • Review and negotiate contracts with existing clients and prospects
  • Maintaining credit system for contractual amendments and customer rating changes
  • Information assimilation and presentation preparation for credit-related projects
  • Preparation of management reports
  • Research and report current credit events related to existing and/or prospective transactions
  • Ongoing policy review and amendment to maintain consistent structure while addressing the needs of various businesses
  • Utilize technical knowledge to recommend and lead system enhancements to management and business units
  • System/Software knowledge (Bloomberg, SAP, and MS Office, Powerpoint, Excel)

 

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise
  • Travel minimal

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or other business discipline

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years professional experience in merchant energy, wholesale energy trading, large commercial or middle-market banking, or corporate finance

  • Ability to prioritize duties and multi-task
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with various levels of professionals
  • Must be able to consistently meet deadlines
  • Must have flexibility in work schedule to accommodate variety of deadlines
