Job Description

The primary function of this role is to identify, develop and close Asset Backed Demand Response (ABDR) projects within target markets. The key element of ABDR is the Asset, an onsite power system, which NRG will own, operate and maintain. NRG will run the Asset for demand response and at other times as determined by our energy optimization staff. The end result is a product that can save the customer money on their energy costs, and can provide the customer reliability. Our current product focus for ABDR is natural gas and diesel reciprocating engines, and in some areas, battery storage systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong pipeline of prospects from an existing and expanding professional network in the commercial, industrial and government sectors in order to promote Asset Backed Demand Response product awareness.
  • Follow up on prospect leads as assigned from cross selling, channel partners, and strategic partners
  • Gather pertinent electrical load and utility information from customer
  • Develop initial, conceptual design of onsite power generation and/or battery storage system
  • Work with execution team on initial project cost estimates
  • Work with internal financial analysts and execution team to develop indicative and final proposals
  • Present proposals to customers and answer technical and financial questions
  • Maintain, update and communicate sales pipeline status
  • Support and emphasize the importance of safety,  as well as regulatory and environmental compliance

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent and relevant technical sales experience with onsite generator systems and/or switchgear
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a valid Passport
  • Must have working knowledge of demand response programs and utility rate tariffs
  • Must have previous experience with contract development and negotiations
  • Must have working knowledge of financial modeling and analysis
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook
  • Must be willing travel frequently to meetings and job sites in order to evaluate new potential projects (25%-50%)
  • If not currently in North-East U.S, must be willing to relocate, as the majority of projects will occur in this region

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 or more years of recent and relevant technical sales experience with onsite generator systems and/or switchgear

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of natural gas and diesel generator sets, multiple engine paralleling, and broad experience with generator set installations including electrical, mechanical, environmental, and civil requirements
  • Knowledge of automatic transfer switches and paralleling switchgear
  • Working knowledge of battery storage systems and inverters
  • Ability to perform economic analysis
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform field inspections and take field measurements
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to use PC and associated software applications to collect and analyze data and produce spreadsheets, databases, and reports
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts (verbal and written)
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals
  • Ability to understand the processes, systems, assets, resources, key personnel, and business functions of the company
  • Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures
  • Ability to proficiently speak, read, write and understand English

 

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment and/or out-of-doors work environment.  (Including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations)
  • Requires frequent travel to sales meetings, internal meetings and to job sites to evaluate new potential projects.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment
  • Ability to work overtime and non-standard hours as required
  • Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Requires operation of a personal computer
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
