NRG is seeking talented students who crave learning new skills and are not afraid to tackle big projects. As an intern you will get to work with a variety of staff while working on real projects that help us grow.


What You Will Learn/Do (Essential job duties):


  • Specify and direct installation of plant auxiliary equipment (under direction)
  • Develop cost benefit analysis for selected plant projects
  • Exposure to combustion tuning and process optimization
  • Prepare and distribute requests for services or materials to vendors (under direction)
  • Exposure to 24/7 plant operation and maintenance
  • P&ID drawing verification and modification


What We Require (knowledge, skills, and abilities):


  • Mechanical, Power or Electrical Engineering student in the Junior or Senior year.  
  • Computer skills (CAD, Microsoft applications)
  • Must be able to work in the power station environment (climb stairs, wear respirator, confined spaces…)
  • Highly motivated, self-starting individual


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to work in a plant environment, which may include climbing ladders, stairs, high elevations, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and operating equipment
  • Use of PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment), which may include safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, ear protection, safety harness, and respirator
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals
  • May require lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
