Summary: 

 

This position is responsible for meter technician duties and instrument system maintenance activities in downtown Omaha. The incumbent will assist in providing uninterrupted customer service and plant support in a safe and productive manner. This position holder is expected to be a demonstrated competent instrumentation technician that can inspect, test, troubleshoot, configure, repair, calibrate and commission instrumentation related to customer metering service delivery, measuring and controlling power plant operations.

 

Responsibilities

 

The I&C Technician is responsible for monitoring, repairing, maintaining, and calibrating plant system instrumentation and control systems and customer metering  and properly documenting such work.  Work with the Engineer, Supervisors and Plant Manager to prioritize tasks.   Ensure that all NRG Omaha safety requirements are followed.  Perform other duties as assigned, including some control room coverage

 

Revenue Metering:    Scheduling and execution of all annual meter tests and calibrations.  Monthly metering analysis; Maintain certification and records of calibration equipment; This includes steam, condensate, deduct, and chilled water meters

Plant Automation:  SCADA configuration and backups; Verify historian system is functioning and backed up; HMI Configuration and backups;  PLC Programming and backups

Plant I&C:   Control programming (PCC II and PCC Ill ) and backups (full documentation);  Control tuning;  Control troubleshooting and repair; Control standardization;  Facility equipment failed state analysis and coordination;  Plant instrumentation documentation;  Low voltage electrical maintenance and repairs;  Maintain log entry spreadsheets and backups

Boiler and Burner I&C:  Burner training; Burner tuning and documentation;  Burner troubleshooting and repair; Acquire and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies to perform all tasks

New project planning: Review and assist with in coordination with Maintenance Supervisor, Operations Supervisors and Plant  Manager; Assist with presenting operator training on such projects

Other Duties:  As directed by plant supervision.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Completed a two-year course in instrumentation, electronics and controls or have at least five-years’ experience working with controls and instrumentation.

Proficiency in math (algebra and trigonometry); basic understanding of AC/DC electricity, basic circuitry, electrical formulas, ladder logic drawings; control systems, (mechanical, pneumatic and electronic) and field instrumentation.

Basic understanding of flow and energy metering systems and equipment.

Basic understanding of Industrial HVAC, chillers, boilers, auxiliary equipment

Demonstrated ability to generate and maintain necessary documentation and comply with all plant paperwork requirements.

City of Omaha Grade 1 operating license, or the ability to obtain same within a three-year period.

Experience working directly with contractors and vendors

Successful candidates must receive a rating of Recommended on the NRG Pre-employment Assessment Test. 

 

 

Working Conditions:

 

Normal power plant environment and/or outdoor work environment in all seasons

Includes working at heights, in manholes, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at plant and customer work locations

Working in confined space and withstand elevated temperatures or extreme cold.

Regular extended and non-standard hours during critical issue resolution and to achieve project milestones
