POSITION PURPOSE

 

Provide Engineering support to the Operations and Maintenance Departments, including technical support, troubleshooting, testing and inspections as needed to maintain safe, environmentally responsible and reliable continuity of power in order to maximize plant profitability for Ivanpah Electric Generating Station.  Additionally, responsible for tracking plant performance parameters and generating reports, capital project management and recommending appropriate and cost effective solutions to correct problems and/or improve efficiency.

 

SCOPE

Works under limited supervision in a team environment.  Supervises contractors as needed.  Interacts with all level of employees through senior management as well as outside business partners such as vendors, suppliers and contractors.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepares or assists in preparation of reports, procedures, cost estimates and specifications required for plant systems.
  2. Completes regulatory agency forms as needed to meet requirements for plant operation.
  3. Perform and/or coordinate engineering design modifications.
  4. Project lead on site level activities which includes generating, developing and executing projects.
  5. Perform as a Project Manager of capital projects.
  6. Provide engineering analysis, inspections and support to operations to keep equipment running at maximum reliability and performance levels while maintaining personnel safety, asset safety and environmental compliance.
  7. Monitor unit efficiency.  Identify and troubleshoot deviations from expected values that would improve unit performance.
  8. Provide long range planning for maintenance, repair and capital improvement projects.
  9. Lead performance tests, equipment performance monitoring and trending.
  10. Support developing elements of the annual operations and maintenance budget.
  11. Support the establishment and enforcement of safe working conditions and practice safe work habits in all activities.
  12. Provide technical support to ensure regulatory compliance and coordination with fleet wide strategy.

 

 SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Complies with the Facility Environmental, Health and Safety programs.
  2. Adheres to company policies and promotes company mission statement.
  3. Active participation and support of the facilities.
  4. Demonstrates professionalism in all activities.
  5. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  6. Available for travel as needed. 
  7. Participates in corporate safety and environmental programs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Education/Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science.
  2. 4 - 10 years of engineering experience in Power or Industrial facilities.
  3. Be available for unscheduled overtime outside normal hours for emergency call in.
  4. Available for travel as needed. 
  5. Must have a valid driver’s license. 
     

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Excel.

 

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Familiarity with Federal, State and Local environmental regulations affecting station operations.
  2. Ability to combine theory with practical application in order to analyze engineering and control problems.
  3. Knowledge of power plant operation and maintenance activities.
  4. Proven ability to communicate technical information to plant personnel.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Proven ability to lead and manage staff, influencing results through others.
  7. May require work during off hours as needed.
  8. Ability to physically conduct detailed audit/inspection of facilities.
