Purpose:    To provide technical support for station operation and maintenance, capital projects, performance enhancement, and project management.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide support as a Controls Specialist.  This consists of working directly with Senior Controls Specialists, Maintenance Supervisors, Engineers, Operations Supervisors, and plant staff to maintain and improve control systems.  Controls Specialist work requirements include ProcessLink & PI development and maintenance, DCIS system development and maintenance, PLC programming and maintenance, Mark VI and EX2100 development and maintenance, training plant staff, plant startup support, craft supervision, direction of contract crews, cost estimating, cost tracking, equipment trouble shooting, and budget preparation.  Monitor control system performance
  • Project management responsibilities include estimates, budgets, payback analysis, bid specifications, bid evaluations, supervising contractors, and providing technical direction.  Workload will include multi-tasking with up to ten projects and minor engineering evaluations during a calendar year.  Support engineers in developing and completing projects.
  • Utilize plant instrumentation, and direct observation to analyze system problems.  Utilize Foxboro I/A, OSI PI, NeuCo ProcessLink, or PC-based engineering programs to analyze field data.  Prepare reports with results of equipment diagnostic analysis.  Develop solutions to equipment problems.  Utilize ProcessLink and PI systems to monitor plant performance.
  • Develop and maintain PLC based control systems on steam and combustion turbine facilities.
  • Utilize GE Toolbox software and GE PI Historian to analyze Main Turbine, BFPT, and EX2100 Main Generator excitation issues.
  • Control Specialists will be expected to demonstrate competency in multiple programming languages.  The main areas of competency are:
    • Foxboro I/A
    • OSI PI
    • RSLogix 5
    • RSLogix 500
    • Micrologix 1000
    • Micrologix 1400
    • RSLogix 5000
    • Rockwell PanelView Software
    • SLC
    • GE Mark VI, EX2100 turbine and voltage regulator controls, GE HMI
    • NeuCo Process Link

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years directly related work experience in a fossil power plant preferred, chemical plant experience may be considered.
  • Formal OEM Training on control systems desired.
  • Operations Training for EO and CRO desired.
  • Training or Experience for computer based data acquisition systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with NERC CIP regulation requirements desired
  • Demonstrated success resolving technical problems and documentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills in a fast paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.  Incumbent must be articulate enough to provide sometimes complex technical explanations.  Writing skills must be adequate to produce reports and programs.  Ability to read must allow for comprehension of complex technical material.
  • Demonstrated success multitasking and completing deliverables before deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable in the principals of the operation of a fossil-fueled power station with particular interests in controls, operations, controls system maintenance, and plant performance.  Must be able to utilize spreadsheet, graphic and database software.  Must be able to work with various levels of department and company management.
  • Effective computer skills using Microsoft office products and SAP.
  • Incumbent must be able to use a personal computer keyboard and printer.
  • Valid Louisiana Driver’s License and willing to travel infrequently to other sites to address issues.
  • Incumbent must be able to access most areas of the plant environs.  Walking occurs frequently.  The ability to walk up to one half (1/2) mile on plant grounds, sometimes over varying terrain and through wet or damp areas is required.  The incumbent must be able to climb stairs and ladders to gain access to equipment.  Sitting, squatting and bending or twisting of torso is required frequently in work site inspections.  Entering confined spaces is sometimes required.  Working at heights on scaffold, grating, man baskets/lifts and concrete floors with exposed sides is sometimes required.
