This position is governed by a local union contract.

Job Summary: 

Under minimal supervision this position is responsible for operating and maintaining systems and equipment associated with an electric generating facility.   Once hired, employee will go through the Operations Progression.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently operates equipment, reports and documents any irregularities in the performance of such equipment and institutes any steps which may be necessary to correct these conditions.
  • Performs required maintenance functions in accord with defined schedules in the generating facility within the scope of the individually demonstrated skills and abilities.
  • Works with others to provide required support.
  • Directs the work of others.
  • Assures environmental compliance and maintains a clean and safe workspace.
  • Performs other related or lesser-skilled work as required.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure and meter calculations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals.
  • Use hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment status to others.
  • Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks.
  • Operate computers and printers.
  • Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel.
  • Works without close supervision while carrying out routine duties.
  • Record and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the overall operation.
  • Meet physical requirements of the job such as perform tasks while standing, walking, climbing and squatting.  Work with extended reach above head and in front of body and lift 50 pounds and carry while walking distances of up to 10 feet.
  • Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment and maintain operating licenses and certifications.
  • Work may require cross training and travel to other unregulated facilities.

 

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year industrial experience

        OR 

  • 1 year experience in operations or maintenance

       OR

  • 2 or 4 year degree
  • Must successfully pass the NRG Pre-Assessment testing with a score of recommended.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior coal power plant experience would be beneficial.
