Job Summary:

The Electrician III will be the only Station Electrician at Devon Station. The station consists of  8 GE LM6000 and a P&W combustion turbine, all are Aero Derivative Gas turbines. Station Electrician must have the ability to install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical equipment typically found at a power plant. Typical equipment would include but not limited to, breakers, motors, lighting, transformers, and wiring.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with NRG Safety Program and Policies
  • Understand and follow NRG Policies and procedures
  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnose malfunctions; determine and take corrective action to restore electrical or electronic equipment or systems to service
  • Test and repair problems on electrical and electronic circuits(Voltages up to 13,800VAC and 250VDC)
  • Utilize electrical test equipment, meters, Meggars
  • Inspect, maintain, dismantle, repair, test, alter and reassemble such electrical and electronic equipment as motors, generators and related auxiliary equipment, circuit breakers, control equipment, relays, signals, power and light circuits, fiber optic systems, transformers, and other power equipment.
  • Maintain drawings, records, and technical manuals
  • Operate, forklifts, man lifts, and other mobile equipment as required.
  • Clean electrical equipment, electrical equipment areas, and shop areas, as required.
  • Assist other job classifications as may be required
  • Train to be qualified as an Operator for the onsite Aero Derivative Gas Turbines


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School degree or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a journeyman electrician
  • Must have basic Microsoft Office skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English
  • Must receive a rating of “recommended” on the NRG Pre-Employment Skills Assessment test


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five plus years of experience working as an electrician in electric generation facilities
  • Must have knowledge of job safety requirements, strong verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills and possess a demonstrated ability to learn. 


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Aero Derivative Gas Turbines, especially GE LM6000 units is desirable
  • Proficient in 3-way communication and understand the Phonetic alphabet
  • Be able to perform effectively in a team environment without close supervision.
  • Have the ability to work well with others inside and outside of NRG.
  • Use discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information.
  • Respond on a timely basis when contacted to work, after normal working hours as needed
  • Performance of duties requires working daytime hours and the ability to work on off hours as required due to equipment status
  • Work in all temperatures and climate conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme
  • Requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, all equipment is located outdoors
  • Requires working independently


Working Conditions:

  • Requires standing, squatting, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment.
  • Required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, high noise areas, and chemicals.
  • May require working at elevated locations
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be physically able to walk for an extended period of time during various weather conditions, there is no vehicle access to much of the equipment
  • Requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, all equipment is located outdoors
