Job Summary:

  • The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the plant in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.   This objective is accomplished by orchestrating numerous tasks carried out by a team of skilled hourly workers during a specific shift while coordinating communications with maintenance, dispatch, and management as appropriate.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assuring that all safety rules and regulations are followed including the coordination and supervision of equipment isolation and LOTO procedures.
  • Responsible for assuring that the station is operating within established guidelines for company, state and federal environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for all personnel in the station, station activities, proper operation of station equipment, and the continuity of operations from shift to shift.
  • Responsible for the proper start-up and shutdown of generating units, including the coordination of switching with Load Dispatchers.
  • Responsible for ensuring competence levels of all direct reports on shift team and developing training plan with Operations Manager to correct deficiencies.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned equipment and overall plant.
  • Responsible for collateral duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for communicating and leading in accordance with company vision and core values.
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance.
  • Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress.
  • Assigns priority for maintenance work.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment and/or power plant environment.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment.
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours, including rotating shifts, as required.
  • Requires occasional travel.
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.).
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • Requires operation of a personal computer.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 (eight) years of experience in power plant operations.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in a supervisory role within a plant.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work overtime and non-standard working hours, including rotating shifts, as required.

     

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of power plant systems and operations.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and personnel management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment.t
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and standard business software.
  • Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
