The Wind Technical Director manages the technical aspects of wind projects in Development and Repowering, from site evaluation through completion of development, scoping, contracting, and handover to the execution team.  The Technical Director works alongside the Lead Project Developer or Site Manager, coordinating the technical members of the project team including functional leads assigned in GIS & siting, permitting, regulatory, engineering, transmission, procurement, construction, and O&M. This position oversees preparation of technical input to development and repowering processes including turbine supply, EPC contract, project schedule, turbine layout and suitability analysis, energy estimate, cost estimate, site investigations, grading and road designs, project descriptions and technical data for permit applications, and conceptual plant substation and gen-tie designs. May be assigned to multiple projects simultaneously depending on project development status and project needs.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assess and anticipate deliverable needs, prepare budget and schedule, and communicate resource requirements to senior management
  • Lead and supervise the assembled project team in execution of technical development deliverables
  • Primary interface with the development/repowering lead and senior management on matters relating to technical development progress, quality, scope and schedule
  • Provide engineering/technical/execution input to site evaluation, turbine selection, off-take agreements, interconnect agreements, financial modeling, and other project development aspects
  • Manage the turbine supply agreement, EPC scope of work, bidding and negotiation
  • Develop and evaluate options to optimize cost and scheduling and develop ‘work around plans’ as required to recover schedule
  • Design and management of deployment of wind measurement campaigns, turbine suitability studies, turbine foundation designs, site access and roads



  • 10+ years project engineering and/or project management experience in wind development and/or EPC
  • 3+ years project or functional group management experience
  • BS degree in an engineering discipline, (i.e. BSEE, BSME, BSCE), or equivalent field experience
  • Project experience to include project development and permitting, conceptual and detailed design, project engineering management, scope preparation, scheduling, cost estimating, procurement, and contracts
  • Construction, testing, and commissioning experience is preferred
  • Professional Engineer Registration a plus
  • Must possess technical knowledge of related engineering systems, equipment, and construction methods/materials
  • Proven team leader
  • Deep understanding of project development and permitting processes
  • Proficient knowledge of engineering economics and optimization process
  • Strong knowledge of project engineering, procurement, and construction processes/procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong computing skills including MS Office Suite and engineering programs.
  • Organized with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects.
