Summary:

The Renewables division is seeking a Wind Engineer to contribute to the development of new utility scale wind farms. This position will play a key role in construction planning including the design of civil and electrical infrastructure. As a Wind Engineer you will collaborate with the project team in planning, scheduling, budgeting, EPC and TSA contracting, technical review, BOP design and economic optimization of wind projects. The Wind Engineer will have in-depth civil and electric engineering knowledge as well as construction experience in order to engineer, design and plan the construction of new or repowered wind farms providing technical support though M&A, development, project finance and construction. This position offers opportunities to establish best practice processes and tools.   

 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to interact with a wide variety of people at all levels demonstrating adaptability, initiative and strong communication skills. Travel to projects under development and in construction will be needed. The Wind Engineer will work on multiple projects simultaneously depending on project development status and project needs.    

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Provide conceptual design of electric and civil infrastructure. Coordinate detailed design of a wind projects collection system, transmission lines, substations, foundations and roads.  Ensure applicable code requirements and standards and good construction practice are followed.
  • Work collaboratively with EPC contractors, owner’s engineers, developers and wind resource analysts in identifying project constraints and opportunities for optimizing levelized cost of energy.
  • Mange independent engineer and IE reports. Coordinate with project managers and finance to ensure timely financial close.
  • Organize, update and maintain project technical documentation.
  • Provide technical support to construction team. Ensure all design information is available when needed including drainage plans and safety requirements. Assist with coordination of IEs construction monitoring including site visits.
  • Review engineering submittals and RFIs from turbine vendors, consultants, and contractors.
  • Support in EPC selection. Elaborate technical bid package for EPC RFP’s. Develop the electrical and civil engineering design criteria.
  • Coordinate the technical review process among internal specialists and owners’ engineers of EPC and TSA contracts. Review scopes of work, technical requirements and design drawings. Ensure there are no gaps in scope.
  • Estimate BOP cost. Develop and maintain cost data base.
  • Develop and update project schedules through development and construction.
  • Support discretionary and non-discretionary permits.
  • Manage road surveys and support road maintenance agreements with counties.
  • Work with development and construction to accommodate landowner and county requirements within the project design.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years related experience.
  • BS degree in an engineering discipline required. Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer preferred.
  • Prior experience with large utility scale energy projects.
  • Detail orientated and effectively manages multiple projects.
  • Technical competence in AutoCad, Excel and GIS preferred.
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel 15% – 30% of the time.
