Job Summary: 

The Supplier Diversity Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing NRG’s Supplier Diversity program.  This role is focused on developing Supplier Diversity strategies for small and diverse suppliers, liaising with various external minority and women supplier development organizations and businesses, and ensuring NRG’s compliance with relevant government reporting requirements to meet or exceed the corporate and regulatory goal for spend with local and/or diverse and small businesses.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Develops and implements strategies with Supply Chain and internal stakeholders on providing opportunities to diverse and local suppliers and to increase diverse supplier contracts; implements and manages supplier diversity processes
  • Represents NRG at supplier diversity conferences, outreach events and other supplier forums
  • Serves as a key liaison between corporate and operations departments and diverse and local suppliers; engages in discussions with suppliers to determine capabilities and benefits to Company
  • Represents Company on supplier diversity committees, councils and/or boards; includes collaboration with peer utilities and state and federal regulatory entities including the General Services Administration and the Small Business Administration
  • Coordinates and participates in supplier diversity trade fairs, conferences and other (internal and external) outreach events; solicit support and participation from Supply Chain, internal stakeholders, operational areas and select prime suppliers
  • Develops and presents speeches, training classes and other educational materials related to the supplier diversity; builds relationships with internal customers and educates on the awareness of the supplier diversity program; seeks to understand service and commodity requirements across the enterprise
  • Supports and implements programs to increase company-wide involvement in supplier diversity activities; includes reporting and adhering to regulatory requirements
  • Maintains vendor database, audit and tracking requirements, develops measures and provides reporting internally and externally; reports key results to internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies and select advocacy groups
  • Develop and maintain a viable pool of diverse and local suppliers to increase their utilization for current and future procurement requirements
  • Analyze supply base, assess utilization gaps and target outreach efforts to identify potential viable diverse and local suppliers
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze/interpret complex data from procurement systems and create various internal and external reports in order to track performance to supplier diversity goals and plans
  • Prepare and submit written and verbal reports for business unit, supply chain, customer and supplier diversity management reviews.  Identify and develop internal and external forums for distributing written communications to highlight the value of supplier diversity; draft communications, and work with corporate communications for planning and execution

Working Conditions:

Travel (25%)
Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in supply chain operations or sourcing.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience leading supplier diversity programs.    
  • Bachelor’s degree. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPM, CPSM, or CSCP certification is preferred
  • Experience in energy industry preferred, power generation industry a plus
  • Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) Reporting experience


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong knowledge of supplier diversity community and associated best practices to improve inclusionary sourcing practices and community outreach
  • Demonstrated experience in account management activities with senior-level executives.
  • Strong business and financial background
  • Excellent written and oral communication, project management, leadership and collaborative skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel
